yet another WTF is this? thread

As you may know, I'm replacing a blown turbo inlet gasket. After removing the turbo (and all the crap you have to take off to do that), I can see an inlet that has a gasket, one nut and nothing else on it.

By the diagram, it kinda looks like it should be a split air pipe. But I didn't take anything off of it. It's just there, open with a gasket and a nut.

If that is split-air, why would it be missing and shouldn't it be blocked?

Thanks, yet again

split air pipe does not see vaccume it forces air into the exhaust to help emissions, i would reccomend blocking this however. and yes the covered port(looks like duck tape) is the ACV (or where it was)

edit: becuase you have a turbo motor its not needed for motor preformance, if you where n/a this pipe would open/close your 5th and 6th ports

np and that looks a hell of alot better...when your making the block off plate and gastket for the ACV make sure to make the gasket a little bigger then the aluminum plate. becuase there is only 3 bolts holding the plate on it tends to leak between the bottom left corner to the top stud. best way get some good RTV sealant and make sure gasket covers all holes. best way to install is to remove the studs that held on the ACV and find some short 10 mm bolts that thread into the holes instead of using a crap load of washers (i have seen this lots) be carefull not to break the studs if you do then the manifold will have to be drilled and tapped out....or hexicoiled.
