http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ebaymotors/w...category=33659 Well, I was browsing eBay and I stumbled upon an actual intake kit that doesn't just include a filter. What do ya'll think of this? I mean, I'd ditch the filter for an A'PEXi, but other than that...

looks fine, but i suggest doing the Real Cold Air conversion, meaning drilling the washer bottle hole to bout 3 inches, sum madrel bent 90degree pipe, hoses clamps and u will be happy, the 7 will love it!

I think it's a waste. I see no potential for any gains from that intake setup. The only way it might be beneficial to you is if you were to use that in cojunction with a cold air intake. It's mainly for underhood looks. Plus the fact that it is a cheap air filter, a hunk of pipe and a couple clamps. After shipping that thing is $50.00 Design your own.

exactally, i mean i think they sell maf adapters at autozone for like $10, then add in some mandrel bent piping and a k&n and you ave yourself a much better system for under $80

what are you guys talking about?? of course there is a gain to be had with that mod. Basically it's the tid mod, so the person doesn't have to do it themselves. It replaces the stock restrictive ribbed rubber tid for a smooth wider inlet duct. People have been doing this to their turboed rx7's for a long time and seen some good gains with it. I had a setup close to that before I went cai. Of course I used my tid in conjunction with a pipe that bent down where the washer bottle used to go. So yes there are gains to be had with that improved tid.
edit: of course if you are putting this on an n/a then it does look a bit short and probably sits to close to the engine bringing in way to much heat to do any good at all Maybe thats what yall ment, lol. Sorry I always think in terms of turboed rx7's.

Thats what the bypass valves are made for.
Oh, and about this, I wasn't intending on just this. I was planning on doing a cold air box and insulating the intake tube as well as wrap it in heat deflective material. You know, that stuff thats advertised in the back of magazines near the ***** enlargement ads?

When I had just the cone filter and no duct or belly pan, I hit a large puddle and got the AFM plug wet. That REALLY sucked. I was in a huge storm, and the car wouldn't go over 10 mph, it was dumping tons of fuel in (lots of black smoke). Made it out of the storm, dried it out, worked fine.

ooold thread but just to clear up the cold air intake water being sucked up thing. The filter would have to be completely submerged to suck up water because air is lighter than water, therefore any water that got in the intake would have to be more accessible than air and that only happens when there's no air available.

Yea its a few months old.
I think at that price no way unless your far to un macanicly inclined to do that stuff yourself or do not have the tools and time. And if you did you probly wouldent be asking us what we think and you would be out there doing it now.
