yet another efan quesiton

i just went down the junkyard and got me a firo fan and i was wondering if i could just hook it up to the little electric fan thats already there or do i have to do a seperate thing. i also went down to kregans and looked at the wiring kits. there are 2 types. a 16 dollar one and 36 dollar one. which one should i go with and last but not least, once i hook up the fan should the 2 speeds automatickly kick in??oh yeah i also have a/c thanks

No, wire it seperately. The stock fan is only there as a back-up, so it triggers too high to be used to trigger the main fan.

Do they come with a thermoswitch? Don't waste your money if they don't. Just by the bits you need from an auto parts store or electronics wholesaler. Wire it up like this:

EDIT: Dammit, why can't I attach pics! It's been like this for over a week. Isn't anything being done?

Anyway, you need to wire the fan from the battery via a 20A fuse and a relay. Trigger the relay with an adjustable thermoswitch. Sorry I can't give you a diagram.

Two Fiero fan write-ups. You should find most of your answers (and maybe some new ideas) in them.

Think of it the other way around. At normal temps the switch is open and so the fan is off. When the car slows down or stops the airflow through the radiator is not enough to cool it, so it's temp starts to rise. When the temp reaches the switch's "on" temp it closes and the fan switches on. The fan's airflow then brings the temp back down again, and when the temp reaches the switches "off" temp (usually a few degrees below the "on" temp so the switch doesn't chatter) it opens again and the fan switches off.

The $36 dollar one comes with everything you need to wire it up. It includes all the wiring, connectors, thermoswitch, mounting hardware for the thermoswitch, an adjustable switch so you can set it at whatever temp you desire. Its a complete kit and its very easy to install.
