yet another coolant issue.

Im hoping you guys can help me. I did some searching on this issue and im kinda worried but i figured id ask to to clarify.

stock FC s4 base model.
no major mods.
headers exhaust
air filter
cold start delete.

few weeks ago. i had issues starting and had to take the FC to a mech cuz i dont have the luxury of working on it. .
replaced alternator and ignition switch to weed out some starting issues. at some point the heater hose that that goes into the firewall blew right under the oil filter. had that replaced and mechanic release it.

so the issue im having now is that my overflow reservoir is filling up with coolant.
coolant buzzard goes on but turns off when i give it gas. car idles fine, no smoke. but the temp gauge does go up a bit over half. whats really worrying me is that the overflow tube seems to be blowing hot air and i read that is really bad. like coolant seal bad. im hoping it just needs to be "burped" or something. this happen to me once before and it mysteriously went away.

i guess standard protocol is to get a rad cap? is there anything else i can do rule out the worse?

thanks in advance.

to determine bad water seals..
Do a coolant pressure test through the radiator, you can rent a coolant pressure tester at autozone, pump about 17pounds and see if it holds pressure. If you see pressure dropping, you can look for the leak[if its external] or add Dye and use uv light to search for the leak.aif you see coolant outside the motor between iron/housing, you have bad outer water seals. If its holding, test if there is exhaust gas in the coolant[which can cause overheating and overflowing of the reservoir] with a block tester[rent at autozone].. What that does it sniffs[with vacuum pump] out your coolant while your car idling, if there is exhaust in the coolant, and it will change color on the tester indicating bad inner water seals.

if it passes both tests, i would really just bleed the system , let it burp the air pockets and replace the rad cap, check your cooling fans

DK!! good to hear from you again. when cold the coolant goes back in the rad so im assuming its just air in the system. but i will do a system pressure check asap.

thanks man.

i recently had a similar probblem and it turned out to be a small leak in my water neck and ast hoses that prevented the engine from "sucking back" the coolant in the reservoir during cool-down.

I would start by changing some hoses if they are old and possibly the coolant caps as well.

^^..

i seem to be experiencing similar symptoms. while driving the i get no buzzard temp is nice and low. if i idle at a light for too long the buzzard will go off. i would assume that idle is "cool down" phase. the only other thing that is worrying me is that now its starting to flood when hot. but one issue at a time. i'm gonna get it the pressure test as suggested and pick up a few hoses when this damn rain clears up.. lol

thank you both for your insight.
