yay!i just got my FC...

Hey there all, i just bought my first Rx-7 on saturday. it's a 1987 GXL. the interior is in excellent condition. the car has 94,000 original miles on it. the previous owner really did an nice job of keeping this rx7 in good condition. so i come to the question. i was just wondering if there were any preliminary things that I should do right now in order to keep it in working order?

if you could please give me any info if possible on this, sorry in advance if I didn't look hard enough, i'm sorry, I'm a "noob" and i really look forward to keeping this rx7 for awhile.

Thanx in adavance.

Give it a good tune up, change all the fluids, and a nice engine bay cleaning. Cleaning the engine bay will give you a good start in spotting any fluid leaks. Clean the engine bay, drive the car for a couple of days, then check engine bay. Check for any leaks.

Things to do...
1) Change oil and filter; use 10W-30 or 20W-50, Castrol GTX or Havoline. Don't use any oil additives. And you really don't need to use a synthetic, as you should change the oil at least every 3000 miles.
2) The fuel filter probably needs changing. It's a pain in the tush but do it anyway.
3) Change plugs and plug wires. Use NKG's leadings and trailings as recommended by the FSM
4) Buy a Haynes Manual.. The FSM's are on line. Learn how to find them and make use of them. They are invaluable
5) Learn how to adjust the Throttle Sensor and the idle speed and keep them properly adjusted.
6) Set the ignition timing
7) Put a good quality synthetic gear oil in the transmission and the rear end. NEO, Redline or Royal Purple (assuming your Xmission is a manual 5 sp)
8) Don't be afraid to wind the RPM's up to redline. RX-7's are rotaries and thrive on spirited driving. Plus it helps keep unwanted carbon deposits from forming

And, finally...read these forums and learn how to do the forum search. Any problem you might encounter has probably come up on this forum before.

The fuel filter isn't a pain to change. Just make sure to depressurize the fuel system before hand.
