YACIT (yet another cold idle thread)

Hey guys...yeah I searched hehe

First question: is there much of a difference between cold starting in gear and out of gear other than the RPMs? Performance wise?

Second...my cold idle is absolutely rougher than a stuck pig...once warm, it is ROCK steady at 750. I use 87 octane fual, no additives. It's done this since my rebuild 15k ago, but it seems like it's getting worse. I mean this sucker shakes, rattles, coughs, spits...no smoke though. Other possible pertinat info: 91 NA, rebuilt 15k ago, 5th and 6th ports blocked, everything else stock. Only other mods would be TII oil pump and straight thru exhaust.

The guy that did my rebuild has raced for over 20 years, and is puerto rican (you know how crazy those guys are about rotaries), and says its pretty normal.

I also have heard of guys who have taken their cold starts off, although I dont know anything about that.

Any suggestions? It doesnt bother me really, as it is smooth as silk when warm, but just want to make sure nothing is messed up.

and is puerto rican
First problem. You know how much they think they know!

First question: is there much of a difference between cold starting in gear and out of gear other than the RPMs? Performance wise?
Are you talking about depressing the clutch and putting it in gear and starting the motor VS out of gear depressing the clutch and starting it?

If so, no performance gain or loss.

My engine also shakes a lot while its cold, actually, its anytime I rev it up to about 2 w/o load. Its a rebuilt but I don't think it was done right, I have seen some signs on the engine that puts a big question mark in my head.

hey dont make fun about puertoricans

the other thing are you using different spark plugs?

3rd did you check the spark plugs wires and any loose intake hoses? that could cause cold engine startup problem

if you removed the water lines on the TB and remove the emmision stuff it would cause that too because it wont rev u like normal. it supose to rev up at a cetain rpm until it warms up unless you push the clutch in

hey now dont dis the puerto ricans...this guy has literally an entire room full of trophies...everything from drag to scaa to drifting. Anywya-

yeah I thought about plugs n wires. Its about time for a tune up, so I'll see what happens after I replace everything. As a side note...my last 7 was first gen, so still getting to know the quirks of S5...Ive read in a few places that plugs for an S4 seem to work better on S5's? Doesnt make sense to me but any truth to that? And if so...why? Burn hotter perhaps?

Otherwise, NGK's and a set of 10mm wires will go on.

like i said before, if you removed the emmision stuff will not rev up. it will stay at whatever idle you have it. mine does the same thing when is cold because i dont have any emmision hooked up.

do you have the emmision stuff hooked up?

as for spark plugs all the 2nd and 3rd gen rx7 uses the same spark plugs

i had 3 first gens before i got a 2 gen and theres no different really of how to determent stuff the only thing about the sec gen is that the ecu is very sensitive and coils are weak.

get a new set for NGK's spark plugs for your car and a set of NGK's replacement wires too that will help some
