Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it

So I'm driving on a nice back road on a sunny afternoon and I come to a turn and decide to take it so I down shift. Too my surprise though it will not downshift into second... or anything and while still coasting stalled out. Wtf?? started it in nuetral, great, still wouldn't go into any gear. Shut it off, put it in first, the car lurched forward and kept crawling but wouldn't start. SO I sat on this road probably an hour before someone could tow me home. I called everyone trying to figure out how to get my car into gear. Just installed a brand new clutch 3 weeks ago, it couldn't possibly have **** the bed. But yea, I hear I'm not alone on this one. Does this look familiar?

Re bleed clutch, if that doesn't work, might be either the master or slave cylinder. Does the clutch pedal stick to the floor at all?

Just some ideas.

You're pilot bearing went kablooey. It might have been dinged around when you re-installed the transmission after the clutch change, it wasn't replaced during the clutch change, or a seal was not installed and it went bad very quickly.

New seal and pilot barring went in at time of the clutch, input shaft was so bound up in the pilot barring bore with all that carrnet present, it took me 2 hours to seperate the transmission from the engine once everything was unbolted, alot of prying, pulling swearing, and even some drinking

Actually, mine just did that today. I haven't had time to search about it yet, though.

Replace The master, slave and line. They are cheap enough and you won't have to touch it again for another 150k miles.

yep, replace line, master and slave then.

My vert is starting to feel spongy on the pedal, which is exaclt how my cpe felt before those components gave out.

Go to mazdatrix, you find all of what you need for 122.

thanks for the advice but i already replaced the line with steel braided line, new slave cylinder, new clutch and ****. i got everything new so i was really surprised when i was driving that it juat went like that. it wasnt an issue of my clutch pedal sticking or anything. it was stupid because the pedal still felt like it had all along - no change. and yes i got all the little pieces out with a magnet.

Wait a second, when did you tkae those pictures? before you changed the clutch, or after it screwed up and you took off the tranny? Did you check the main shaft on the tranny after the bearing screwed up like that? I can imagine it got eaten up and wasnt too happy, even with a new pilot bearing.

Either it wasnt properly lubricated. BTW did you tighten the bolts to get the tranny mated to the engine? You want to push the engine and tranny together, never use the bolts to bring it together. You usually end up screwing hte pilot bearing.

They do make oil bearing brass sleeves that can be used instead of the roller bearings. I had an FD that locked up under hard accellerations. Bearings were just bad enough to allow them to bind.

That happened to me once. I thought it was the clutch, throw out bearing, or syncros. It turned out to be the clutch fork pivot bolt broke. I ordered a new clutch before I took it a part because I that was it, but when I cracked the motor and tranny apart the ball part of the the bolt fell out. So I bought a new clutch for nothing, but the clutch was an ACT so it was a good upgrade anyway. So I would for sure pull your tranny out before I bought anything.
