Would you pay $1000 for this???

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/car/337645007.html

Hey guys ive lurked around the forums for awhile and looked at many different fc purchasing stories along with some pictures builds ect...

Also i posted here a little over a month ago about an Fc that was in good shape all around just needed a clutch according to the owner. for $675, well needless to say that fell through seen as i had no way of getting it home from nearly 100 miles away.

So here is the question i have an appointment to go see this car this comming sunday. At the time there were no pictures and he did say it needed paint and carpet. however when i say the pictures i kind of questioned how well it has been taken care of even if it has only 106k on it. Granted paint fade is common in AZ due to the heat. However aaron cakes site said that the paint is pretty good on the 7's so that was another red flag.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Oh, and I dont know why Aaron Cake would say the "paint on 7s is pretty good". Mazda has never been able to paint a car. INcluding the FC, FD, and my wife's millenia which has been well cared for since new and the paint is chipping and peeling off in flakes. The paint on the 7s fades pretty severly, and hoods/sunroofs tend to turn white and oxidize.

The white paint peels off in sheets.

The red paint fades to orange (series 4) or pink (series 5).

The harbor metallic and series 4 blues, series 4 burgundy, gray and arctic silver, dull out and the clear turns to white on top though they are sometimes not too bad.

The black and series 5 brave blue (navy) are the only color that holds up worth a damn.

Thanks guys. thats how i felt about it to its just felt that input from people with more experience with the 7 would be helpful. I already e-mailed him and said i'm not interested. I'll just wait for something better to come along. After talking with him there is no way hes gonna knock his price in half.

But thanks again for the input.

wow, alright, #1 is what the heck is up with the exhuast? #2 is the fact that the interior needs a little more than "some help", and #3, that guy must be an idiot if he thinks hes getting 1k for it. i payed $300 for mine, and got a way better deal on it. like Kevin said, 2-300 MAYBE on a good day....i just bought another 7, a TII fc for 500 bucks. in way better shape than that piece.

no way dude my friend got one from a junk yard that looked exactly the same only a different color. He picked it up for $1! (plus towing) cause the guy said the engine was blown, it was only flooded we got it home and about an hour and all new fluids later he was doing burn outs all over the place. If the thing ran damn close to purfict I would give them 600ish

Assuming everything else was in working order, you could have bought the one for $675 and had it towed to the nearest clutch shop and then driven it home.

I think I might have known the red one he was talking about, was it in Tucson and have the crazy louvers on it?

But I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else that is soooo not worth 1k, 2-300 would seem fair for the condition IMO I paid 1k for mine, she's a bit shabby (oxidized paint, worn interior but that's all normal stuff for an AZ car) runs like a champ though. Good luck on finding an FC theres always some selling here in AZ so it shouldn't be too hard.

Haha! Awesome! I've always wanted to find a deal like that.

As some have said, I'd probably pay $600-700 at most, depending on how it ran. You should tell him to keep the wing...that will probably make the price drop a couple hundred...hahahaha.

I thought about that so i made a few calls to get pricing from a shop i was looking at $600+ in parts and labor. at the time i did not have the money to do that so i lost out.

Anyways im going to keep looking ive seen a couple others for around 2k that look nice. I just kind of want that lucky deal like a lot of you seem to find but if not so be it.

i got mines free with 205k on it and it ran great but if you want a project car i would get that and just fix it up but pay 700 for it because a 1000 is kind of pushing it but not much its 20 years old so your going to get that on that on the paint and its in arizona so yes the paint is going to fade

Smokie Im not really looking for a project car.

Sure I don't mind basic clean up and some flaws here and there and even to the point of making my own projects out of it in the future such as upgrades or t2 swaps but first i want to learn the in and outs by doing basic matinance and repairs before i get into the "project" arena. Like i've seen alot of people say "rock it stock for awhile"
