Would you buy a NA style (No vents) Carbon Fiber hood?

Yo,

I'm throwing up this poll for giggles.

The hoods would hopefully be manufactured by Fiber Images in Southern California.

Here's their work:

http://www.fiberimages.com/products.htm

They have different colored weaves, etc. They do awesome work. If we get enough postive responses, hopefully a SoCal Forum member has a spare NA hood lying around that can be dropped off for a mold at Fiber Images. We need to get this done!

from my point of view, we already have aluminum ones stock (well some), and the only reason for a carbon would to be to have it Nude. I'd say go vented, I like cowl hoods personally

Yo,

Hate to tell you this Node, but I'm not interested in folk's "point of view" who don't own an RX-7. I'm puzzled why you even offered your unique point of view, unless it was just another post on the way to 3000 posts.

And I'm confused about whom you refer when you say "we already have aluminum ones stock", who's the "we"? Have you gotten an FC recently? I am still under the impression that you do not have an RX-7, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry I didn't put this caveat on the poll, but only vote if you have an FC, can afford a CF hood, and want to buy it in the next few months.

I like the hood scoop. Its cool seeing it from the drivers seat. And when your driving, just remember to keep the hood scoop pointed down the road, and all is good. =]

You know what you uptight ******, I meant we as in "The FC community" theyre plentiful, It's not hard to get them, and theyre light. Except for you rice who wants a plain jane CF hood so you can just leave it nude and act like you have a rotary honda. You know what you ******, get the **** off my case. You know plenty of people agree with me on the cowl hood idea.

2nd gen aluminum hoods are not exactly plentiful you idiot. Paul Ko's (K2RD) ITS race car has a flat carbon fiber hood on it. It looks badass. And his car is NOT rice. Wise up pal.

Well, I DO happen to have an FC, and agree with Node 100% and heres why:

1) Any Turbo II or 89+ NA is going to have an aluminum hood already. So weight savings is already there somewhat.

2) Most Turbo II owners dont have FMICs and if they did, why buy a $500++ (whatever you charge) hood? Why not MORE MODS

3) Although this may be considered a little bit ricey, I bet most people prefer the Turbo II hood weather or not they have an IC under there or not. Lets face it: It looks more aggressive. (IMO)

4) I'm guessing most people who want to spend a lot of money on a $500 piece of fancy plastic already can afford T2s. Hence, a lot of cash for an NA owner.

5) A cowl would be a great idea because chances are unless someone is SUPARICE, they are going to have previous mods before a CF hood. Everyone knows whether a car is NA or Turbo that its going to make more heat, after all more power = more energy = more heat.

6) I'm not speaking for RX-7 owners on this one, but I think CF hoods look kinda stupid, the only reason I would get one would be to save a little weight and I would paint it anyways. So basically count me out on a CF hood. There is a kid at our school who has a blue celica with a red hatch area and basically it looks like ***. Different colors are cool? Whoa 80's 2 tone baby.

I really feel you need to learn not to shoot down fellow forum members, whether they have RX-7s or not. I came to this forum before I had an RX-7, and now that I have my Turbo II, I really dont get treated much different nor do I expect "royalties" because I own a 7.

So basically, whats the point of this? GOT RICE?

I dont think there is a point to these hoods other than a minor weight savings, but I would guess over 90% of CF hood owners DO NOT buy them for weight savings. Look at where you find most of them, on Hondas.

Why do you even bother asking anyone's opinion if you are just going to flame everyone who disagrees with you? I happen to agree with Node's first post, and after reading some of the responses, I am tending to agree with his second post, too.

Yo,

Goodness gracious, looks like I hit a nerve with Node. I'll let his juvenile homophobic spewings speak for him, instead of verbally napalming him back. It'd be far too easy and I honestly don't think he would "get" most of my verbal ripostes. Oh well.

To anyone who thinks I am flaming or "shooting down fellow forum members", I'm not. If I were, then /I'd/ be the one that would crack 3000 posts. *wink*

I asked a genuine question to gauge the immediate demand for a NA style carbon fiber hood so we (The REAL we, the "FC Community") could finally get a carbon fiber hood made professionally. And I get this disingenuous reply from a self-styled FC expert:

from my point of view, we already have aluminum ones stock (well some), and the only reason for a carbon would to be to have it Nude. I'd say go vented, I like cowl hoods personally

Why is it disingenuous? The "expert" doesn't even OWN an FC, nor is in the market for an CF hood any time soon. So why did he reply? Why is he offering up his point of view? When someone figures that out, let me know. I'm still puzzled.

Yo,

Also, I wouldn't mind having a vented hood, I'd prefer it, but I'm trying to be realistic here. Does anyone have a Panspeed or Border hood that they can let Fiber Images do a mold off of? I didn't think so. But there are plenty of NA hoods that can be dropped off, steel or aluminum. I'm sure having someone custom design a hood would be A LOT more expensive, then copying a stock hood. Again, I'm trying to be realistic here.

RarestRX,
Most people who want to save weight are doing racing of some sort. I plan to get an aluminum hood for my car so I can be quicker in autocross next season. If you're going to run stock, street prepared, or road race in IT the hood can't be vented, it has to be like stock. Unless you run an "open street" class you have to pay attention to the rules. But those who responded above don't understand that.

Personally, theres no way I'd buy a carbon fiber n/a hood for $500 if I could just go get an aluminum turboII hood for cheaper AND have a fuctional vent already there. Now...if you were to make carbon fiber turboII hoods, well, I'd honestly buy one. And I dont give a **** WHO thinks nude carbon fiber hoods are rice, a carbon fiber turboII hood would be the ****.

When did you ask for EVERYONE WHO OWNS A FC in the first post. You didn't so why act like you did say that originally.

Because this is a forum open to anyone who wants to join, I could hate RX-7s and still join. Until you make your own forum, and I come and **** around on it, you really have no real say. And how do you get "expert"? I never mentioned **** about me being an "expert". I think your semi-rare RX-7 has gone to your head. Not in the market for a CF hood? Then why the hell am I helping out in the other CF hood thread. hmmm. No not very soon, and not at all if I get an N/A. Why am I offering my point of view? Because you asked for it.... don't post stuff if you don't want everyone to be able to reply with their own opinion.

Yo,

I hear you Bill, and I myself have an aluminum hood. So why on Earth would I want a carbon fiber NA (flat) style hood? 'Cause I think carbon fiber hoods are badass. Especially Fiber Image CF hoods, they're works of art. I wouldn't paint it, and not get a colored weave. Just plain old grey/black carbon hood on a bright red RX-7 with bright white rims. I think that would look very JDM and cool, but if you don't think so, more power to you.

It would be the same reason why I want 16 x 7" Volks TE-37's in white. Do I need them? Not really, the stock 16" TII mesh style rims are plenty light. Then why? Yep, for looks. Same with the CF hood, I'd get it because I think it looks cool.

Is that "rice"? I don't think so. Putting a TII hood (Aluminum OR CF) on your NA RX-7 is much more "ricey" than a nude CF hood on an NA. My definition of "rice" being: Pretending to have/be something you're not.

I dont see how putting a turbo II hood on my N/A is "Ricey". Is it ricey to want to cool the air under my hood for better intake and combustability? I personally dont think so. And if I wanna make my hood look more aggressive than the flat piece of **** thats on there, then thats my own deal. Everyone has their own definition of rice I guess.

I know someone who has a T-II hood on a GTU, marked as a GXL
but thats because he has the GXL on it because he brought it up to exact GXL specs from base, and has the T-II hood because he is putting a supercharger in it and just couldnt really wait much longer

dude lay off node! geez he's trying to give you some input and you jump all over him. what the heck did you mean when you said :

I'm throwing up this poll for giggles.
you throw the poll up for giggles then when you get a response from someone who doesnt own an FC you get all pissed? geez what crawled up your butt. pretty lame you gotta shoot down someone for their opinion about rx7's, node knows a lot about these cars, a lot more than a lot of people here. so what if he doesnt have one yet, at least he's puttin in some input.

having an NA CF bonnet would be nice, but if i was going to go to all the trouble of getting something custom made, then i'd rather a bonnet with the reverse scoop.

it not only looks unbelievably mean, but is eminently functional, and i have *zero* options for getting anything with a reverse scoop on it for my FC without getting something customized,..
