Would I benefit from an S-AFC II?

Ever since I bought the FD in June, I haven't paid much attention to modifying the FC Vert. The FC has about 10k on the engine with a streetport, air box with K&N, Racing Beat Race Pipe, Cat Replacement Pipe, and Catback. Will I benefit significantly from an S-AFC? Will I need to modify the stock fuel setup (550 Secondaries?). I was planning on also buying an aluminum flywheel when the clutch goes out (probably won't be for a while) and an electric fan (I've read that it helps to rev quicker). Would either of these be much better to do first?

Thanks for the help!

And part 2 of the question.....

If the answer is YES - You will benefit is a new S-AFC-II the only one that is good? Is the new unit a lot different/better than the one it is replacing?

Would a used unit (not the II) still work well? Are there ones that should be avoided?

Thanks.

an SAFC will help a streetported engine because the a/f might be off now.

A safc II is better because they added more RPM increments I believe.

Yes you will benefit from a S-AFCII but only if it is tuned properly. I just recently installed one on a friend’s car (RarestRX) and we tuned it on the dyno with a wide band sensor. Check out the post here https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=261173 With a street port it would be wise to dial in your car (with what piggy back or EMS it’s your choice) now that you are out of spec and the ECU can not correctly compensate for what is now going on.

The S-AFCII is far better of a tuning tool than the previous version. It has 12 rpm points, high and low throttle settings, and allows you to store two separate maps.

I bought one myself... for a similar reason, and because I want more control over what my engine's getting. But mine's a turbo where it matters a lot more. However, when I had those same mods you listed (well, almost the same) on my NA it was running not too well due to being VERY off... I wanted an S-AFC II then and probably should have bought one. I have it now, the SAFCII with the purple display, black face, etc... and yes it adds a lot of nice features over the SAFC original. I bought mine from rx7store.net, their price was the best I'd found new online.

OK, anyone else. It seems like I might pick up like 10-15 hp. What would be the best-case scenario? 20 hp?

After reading RarestRx's post, it seems clear that we'd gain not just power, but drivability as well - especially in the higher rev range.

Of course this is all contingent on finding someone to tune it properly. Is that hard to find?

Yeah, I was wondering how difficult it is. My mech. is very competent and has used S-AFC but I don't know if he has ever used an S-AFC II. I guess it could only get better???

It is very easy to use. If you mechanic can use the S-AFC he can definitely use the 2nd version. Just has more RPM load points a couple of different features. When it comes to dialing in your car with it I can’t stress enough the use of a dyno with a wide band senor. The “Butt dyno” is not accurate .

But remember, just becasuse he has used an S-AFC before doesn't exactly make him an expert. I too, am soon to get one.

Just to update everyone [sarcasm] because I know everyone has been on the edge of his seat [/sarcasm]

The car was backfiring (at least it was much more obvious) after the installation of the Racing Beat Catback, so I decided to go ahead and purchase an S-AFC II in Black with the Maroon display. It was installed today and will be tuned tomorrow. I'll post the results this weekend.
