would a burnt clutch result in higher clutch engagement?

im looking into all possibilites concerning my situation with my clutch.

i noticed that the engagment point when the clutch is depressed is only 2-3 inches, when the clutch was working fine it was probably 6-8 inches.

what is there to learn from that?

over the weekend the engagement point was suddenly higher than normal. when i say suddenly i mean, parking the car and coming back 3 hours later.

well would the engagement height be the reason why my clutch is slipping?

could be, if it wasn't allowing the clutch to engage all the way. but it would be wierd for that to happen suddenly like you described...... well, that's wierd for whatever the problem might be.

try and adjust the rod between the slave and the clutch peda, and hopefully it will help.

there are some nuts on the studs behind the clutch pedal, check the manual to see which need adjusting. my friend's clutch always seems to end up working more slop/free movement into the it. i need to adjust mine because mine doesn't fully engage till near the top of the pedal push and is rather annoying. i have always wondered if clutch slip could be caused by a weak pressure plate rather than a worn disc, anyone know if that's possible?

I'd be looking into the clutch hydraulic system. A lot of miles on the car? It'll cost less than $100 to buy the clutch master and slave cylinders, and the flexible hose. An internal leak in either of the cylinders would cause exactly the problem you're describing. There's really no way to tell which cylinder is causing the problem. You could change the slave first, since it's only about $25 and see if that fixes it. If, not change the master too. And remember to bleed the system any time you open it.
