Worst idle problem i've ever seen!
recently got an 87 n/a and my battery died so i put in a new battery. then i started the car and waited for it to idle but instead of staying at about 750 rpm, it kept going down and eventually shut itself off. my friend said he had the same problem and found out that the dead battery messed up the ECU. he said he took it to get the ECU reset and it fixed the problem. is that all i need to do or could it be something else

The waiting game......

I doubt it is the ECU since i've had a charged battery into a dead battery in my car for about 1 month after I recharged it, it was all good to go. Well try giving it some gas when the car starts up just to keep the idle on. If the car dies I would just mess with the idle speed screw if thats your problem maybe your not getting enough air. But please anyone correct me if i'm wrong.

Before adjusting, I would fix the VACUUM LEAKS!!!
You could screw around with the screws for days, and nothing happens. When you fix the VACUUM LEAKS, you've got the adjustments all screwed up.
find all the VACUUM LEAKS before *anything* else. Notice I said "find" not "check for". They're there, I promise.
