Yet another TPS question

Hello everyone,
I searched for this, but couldn't come up with a definitive answer, so I was hoping that someone here who has done this can sum it up for me.

I'm planning to change my oxygen sensor and tps on my S5 NA this afternoon. I understand that as the oxygen sensor is a pretty tough cookie, it's better to remove it when the car is hot (I have a o2 socket and some wd-40, just in case). Also, it's best to adjust the tps when the engine is hot.
My plan is to warm up the car, remove the o2 sensor, remove the tps, install and adjust the new tps. Then I can install the new o2 sensor afterwards.

I've read some people saying that the throttle body must be removed in order to remove the tps on an s5 NA, is this true? I'm looking for the easiest/quickest way to remove the old tps and install the new one, so that I can adjust it while the car is still warm.

Is this a crazy way of doing it? I would appreciate any advice/warnings/tips that people who have done this before could share before I go and screw something up.

Thanks much!

IIRC, the s5 TPS can be changed without removing the TB.

It's three bolts and it's very easy on an S5 N/A.. you don't need to remove a single other thing.

And my advice is actually that you swap the TPS, then warm up the car, adjust the TPS and then take out the O2 sensor... assuming you're not incredibly slow adusting the TPS, you don't want the engine to be hot if you accidentally drop one of the little nuts that hold the TPS on and have to burn your hands into heaps of crispy flesh trying to retrieve it.

hahaha good point

I've just finished changing the tps, I've adjusted it, and the car seems to idle fine (hot mind you, I"ll have to wait and see if it still fluctuates when it's colder).

My problem is that I can't get the damned o2 sensor out!! I've sprayed around with wd-40, I'm using the o2 sensor socket, but I still can't seem to get enough leverage to break that sucker's grip. I don't have a way to go underneath the car, otherwise I'd give that a try. there isn't even enough room to use a hammer against the socket tool. I guess I"ll just have to keep at it, it's got to give eventually, right???

I'm gonna try that! If that fails, I'm going to find more extensions for the socket so that I can crank it from above the intake hose for more leverage.

Thankfully, the tps replacement has eliminated my pulsing idle.. I'm just about the happiest guy around, since my local mazda dealership quoted me $900 to fix the o2 sensor and tps, and I pretty much did it for less than $100.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, this community is awesome!
