"The worlds only triple-rotor Mazda Conv."??
Surprised to see THAT in my Autoweek this week. Do we know who this is?? Web page listed doesn't work for me.

Surely, someone here has done this project as well?
$39.900--better be in pristine shape I guess...

Yes, a lot of us know of him. I've never met him but he is a member of the West Penn RX-7 Club ( http://westpenn.rx-7.org ). He's from CT.
I hear he has a lot of troubles with that car

Hehehe, you forgot the ~ thingie.

That car was built by Peter Farrell, and is owned by George Samuels. George is a great guy, and was giving out free rides at MADS. He is selling it because he has to send his kids to college. That price is a steal for that car! I don't think that you guys fully realize how much it costs to make something like that, especially if one of the top builders in the USA makes it.
I'm pretty sure that it's the only 20B FC convertible in the USA. I would imagine that there would be another somewhere in the world, but I haven't seen it. Does anybody know of one?
In fact, I can only think of 5 street-worthy 20B FC's in the USA. There must be a couple more, but this is a very rare configuration.

Mine's a coupe (88SE body, 88GXL suspension & brakes, TII hood, S5 front end). I don't think that I can count mine as a street car until it is actually able to drive down the street under its own power. Completed 20B FC street cars are very rare, and I don't think it's fair to count all of the unfinished projects or good intentions. Here is where I counted my 5 USA 20B FC cars:
1) Chito Solomon - Red TII
2) George Samuels - White Convertible
3) K2RD - White Hardtop
4) An unnamed individual (I don't know if he wants to be known)
5) "3Rotor" (on this forum) - Mariah 10 AE (He posted that he owns it, so I think it's at least OK to mention his handle)

Anybody else know of another street-legal 20B FC in the USA?

Well, I know there has to be more than 1-- but the work in progress comment is certainly true. I thought there was a guy in Minneapolis working on a 3 rotor transplant as well.
As far as the price, I'll see what the site has, etc., but I'd agree with Evil, being a Pete Farrell product, it's probably pretty well done and I'm sure it was pricey at the time. Too bad they forgot the ~ in his Autoweek ad...... Hopefully he'll still get some interest.
Well, I guess this is incentive for those of us looking for another challenge: Find a vert, install a 3 rotor!!
I'll put that on my list-- right after, well, er, everything....

Oh damn
This is the first I heard about a 20B vert so I may still be a little awed by it, but WOW.
If that car still looks/runs/performs as well as it seems to have done when it was first built, I'd buy it for his price. So unique and so, so powerful.
Now where to get $40k...

OK, first off, the car IS as awesome as described. The installation really looks like Mazda intended it to be there. Fit and finish are top notch everywhere from the engine bay to the new boot that covers the lowered top (modified to fit around the roll bar)
As for how it drives. . .I only got to drive it on the roads leading into VIR, but that car has REAL power. Low end torque is exactly as you've heard. 20MPH in 3rd gear? No problem. . .just step on the gas, no downshifting needed. Want to catch up to that car in the distance? Step on the pedal and feel the seats envelop you as the invisible hand pushes you firmly back. Everything seems to be matched up perfectly. There is no apparent lag when you push on the acelerator. . .it just goes.
Is the car worth $39,000? Hell yes!! When he originally asked over $50K I was scrambling to find a way to get the money. At its current price, it's a steal. Evil Aviator wasn't kidding when he talked about the cost involved in doing a basic conversion, much less a quality job like this.
One caveat. . .this car really is NOT intended to be a daily car. It COULD be, I suppose, but personally I think it is more of a special occasion car, or at best a weekend type vehicle.
Just my $.02
