Works great for 30 seconds, then practially no power at all...

Hey, here's what happening with my car. When I first turn it on, let it warm up a bit (about 30 seconds) then start to drive it, it gives me plenty of power. However, after about 30 seconds of driving it, it practically dies, gives me virtually no power at all, and then I have to nurse the clutch just to get it to hobble back to my house... I'm thinking that this is most likley a fuel problem... I'm going to drain my tank a little to see if there is any h2o in my system, and then I'm going to try to put a little dry gas in it to see if that would evaporate any water that may be in there. I'm wondering if anybody else had my problem, and how they fixed it (I have also heard that it could be a problem with the fuel pump, or an electric problem regarding the fuel pump...) Any help would be greatly appreciated, b/c I'm running out of money, and can't afford to take it to the shop to have them figure out what is wrong...

if you let it sit for awhile does it do the same thing again upon starting? not on an rx7, but on a chevy truck i have had a similar problem caused by a super clogged fuel filter. after the first few seconds, no fuel would get in and the truck would cough and then die. after letting it sit, it would fire right up again and run shortly...and then cough and die again.

yes, if I let it sit for a while it will indeed do the exact same thing... The fuel filter is definitely a suspect, and I will indeed replace it, thanks for responding

I think that could cause the problem with the secondaries. Maybe the fuel pressure is low and it can't keep both rails pressurized.

Careful on the fuel filter tabs that hold the fuel filter to the side of the car. mine broke and I had to run new fuel line to the engine bay and biuld a mount just off the firewall. At nothing else I can change the fuel filter w/o jacking up the car.

btw, as much as I hate it when people don't post 2nd gen stuff in the 2nd gen forums... when I went to Mazda today to get the fuel filter, I saw the all mighty rx-8, and let me say, I almost peed my pants. It is georgous, and there is an 8 in my future. Without a doubt.
