wooo electrical stuff shorting out all over the place

So it all started when I was drving to the 12 hours of Sebring. I was listening to some tunes on the radio when all of the sudden the radio cuts off and the door ajar light comes on, and the rest of the idiot light things including the clock shuts off. I unplug the radio and everything goes back to normal. Every time I tried plugging the radio back in, the door ajar light would come on and the radio would not. So its 3:30am and ive got 4 more hours of driving and im not about to go that distance without some tunes. Being as awesome as I am, I pull off at a gas station, pulled out my extensive toolkit and rewire the radio power to the cig lighter. From then on all is find and dandy....

....until today. I just got done putting on the UIM for the millionth-billionth time (stupid *** mazda and their lame little 90degree hose.. what were they thinking) and decide to start the car. Everything goes well until my washer fluid light comes on. I think to myself.. that thing never worked since I got it and I never bothered fixing it (yet). So I think to myself that the sensor just decided to start working, or it randomly sprung a leak (everything has been breaking since my TII swap) and the light decided to come on.

Well here comes the interesting part.

I decide to turn on my map light (the light next to the sunroof buttons) and guess what happens:

The door ajar light comes on washer light and clock goes off, and the map light does not come on. I push the button again and my clock reads 0:00. This happens with both lights. After a bit of spirited driving the lights work as they should again. I now think that the washer fluid low light has something to do with this shorting out going on. I just want input on the matter or at least tell me where all of these things get their power from because its definately shorting to the door ajar sensor.

So far its been the radio and the map lights. Logicon and all associated stuffs work fine as well as the other electrical systems in the car. The engine electrical system still needs a couple things switched up (foolish me used TII engine harness instead of the n/a one during the swap) but the motor and its associated stuffs run fine too. So someone want to give me some insight on this issue?

Its an 88GXL to 88TII swap. Everything worked fine when it was N/A; but when I first got the car, all the radio **** was pretty hacked up.

pull the idiot cluster out and look up icemarks or aaroncakes (dont remember who) rebuild of the thing. the soldered ends have a tendecy to deterierate or corrode. since you are saying that all other electrical systems are fine, then it has to be JUSt the board. take the bitch apart and see whatsup with it.

peace

Plus 1 for the above.

On a side note...your clock defaults to 0:00?
Mine always reset to 1:00 before I replaced the cluster.

(what the f*ck is with the "I love **** sex" when the plus sign is used?)

But what does the idiot cluster board have to do with the map lights and radio? It would seem to me that there is a problem in the harness or elsewhere unless the power for those two things go through the idiot cluster.

It gets rid of the thread ***** bozos that just say plus1 or plus 2...

And from Longshoes descriptions, he has a blown room fuse and failing alternator, not a bad clock/idiot light panel.

I have a similar problem, I guess my gauge must be crapping out too. First my washer light came on, then my door light comes on, but is slightly dim (when I open a door it brightens up to normal). Then later on my hatch light comes on. So now I'm driving around with door, hatch and washer lights on. Then I'm driving normally on the highway and my hazards start going bananas! Going off rapidly (like a machine gun) randomly. I get home and I'm idling in the driveway and they are going bonkers again. I open my door and they stop. Close the door and they go off again. I guess I'll clean this thing out...
