My Find - 89 Streetported 'Vert

About 6 months ago, I wrote a small introduction about my love of FC's and the ten year quest to get one. For those interested, I believe it was titled, "FC: A Love Story" or something similiar.

Several months after purchasing that car, I was browsing the forums at my offices while the employee of a client of mine was visiting. She looked over my shoulder and said, "Oh...you like the wankels? The rotaries?"

I assumed she was jerking me around but it ends up that her husband had a pristine, black, 89 vert that had been sitting in their driveway for over 18 months because something was wrong. I asked if they'd like to sell it and she said, "sure!"

So I go and look at it...beautiful....no body damage...interior is missing a vent or two, top had been replaced and was new. I offered them $1000 for the car and they accepted.

A few days before I went to pick up the car, two girls stole a car, drove into this neighborhood, flipped the stolen car, destroyed the sellers fence, mashed their VW, and pushed it into the 'vert causing damage to the front bumper and passenger fender...nothing bad however. Due to the damage, I offered them $500 for the car and they accepted.

So after I took possession of the car, I started going through the immaculate records that had been kept on it by the previous owners. The first item of interest was that it had been converted from an auto to a manual...a quick look underneath confirmed this.

Next I noticed a receipt for a PETTIT RACING STREEPORTED ENGINE...which according to the date and odometer had less than 30k miles on it. I called Pettit and asked them if they could confirm if this was one of their engines...they didn't have records but told me where to look for stamps and another indicator...sure enough...they were all there.

So why wasn't the car running? Bad OMP, ECU, and one actuator was stuck. I currently have all the parts and am replacing all the lines, etc, etc at the moment. I just had the UIM and LIM sandblasted and am getting ready to put everything back together.

For $500 + less than another $500 in new body parts and replacement parts, I'll have this car running. I'd say it was a great deal. Some pics:
