Won't start, tickign sound

as the subject says, ti won't start...everytime anyway. after a whole lot of tries it may.

Problem is when I turn the ignition, nothing happens. I get a "tick" or click sound. any idea what this is? If I keep tryign eventually it cranks rigfht over, but I fear it may not at all soon. it took like 20 tries today to start it.
turn ignition, tick..try again...tick

I did some searching, didn't get what I needed.

its could be your switch at your ignition barrel, the terminals might be all full of carbon and the starter motor is not recieveing enough voltage to pull the solenoid.

i have the same problem on my fc3s and the guys from the www.ausrotary.com forum suggested using a relay and using the line from the start switch to trigger the relay. this will provide good power to the starter and should run first go.

You also want to check your ground wires, i had a problem just like this with the ticking, if you buy a new starter and still get nothing check your ground wires.

the ticking sound i'm told is from the solenoid trying to pull.

check battery
check starter, you could get lifetime warranty from most automotive suppliers. and it's about 30 mins of work.

yea check battery.. or have someone jump you if you dont have a multimeter id say 90% of the time:
if it starts with jumpers, your batterys dead.. could be bad alternator or short circuit or just old battery
if it doesnt start with jumpers.. its the starter.

agreed check your starter, lightly hit it with a hammer and if starts right up it, then you know the starter needs replacing

Okay, thanks guys, I went and got a new used starter and a new battery, along with new battery posts. fixed the problem.

The car now cranks over very easily and fires right up.

Sorry it took so long, but I had to find time to get to the junk yard

Thanks for all the help!

Any auto parts store should be able to get one for you within a day or so. some may even have it in stock.. don't hold your breath, though, if you live in a place like my town
