Won't Start
I have an 88 Rx7. Recently replaced the exhaust system and installed a cold air intake system. The problem is that after i installed the cold air intake system, the car won't start. Tried push starting. Also tried by taking out the ENG INJ fuse cranking then putting the fuse back in. Still no luck. Thought it might be the cold air intake, so i put the factory one back in and tried push starting it again. This time it started for about a second and died again, with no luck since. I took it to a mechanic. They ran a computer diagnostic, and it returned with no errors. They can't figure out what it is. Do i have a wire loose, or something electrical. Please Help!
sounds like it could just be an air leak past the AFM, check all the connections on your intake over very very carefully and make sure its not sucking in air behind the AFM (therefore not registering the correct airflow)
air flow meter not getting air. Make sure that you connected the air pump hoses to the back of the intake also. The slightest little air leak will cause these to not start or like you said, start and die. Dont panic its a air leak somewhere.
If i were you why dont you reconnect the stock one and see if it starts, Thren you will know it has to do w/ something air related.

I hate to state the obvious, but I will. Make sure the electrical connector to the AFM is plugged in.
The mechanics couldn't figure it out? Were they rotary-smart mechanics? Did they do the basic checks--spark, fuel, compression? The computer in the ECU on this car is pretty primative as compared to more modern cars, and in many cases not much help in diagnosing problems. If you can't find the problem yourself, find a good rotary-smart mechanic and he will be able to find the problem. Good luck!
