wont start

i ran my rx-7 out of gas and let it sit for about a week. then u filled her up and went to crank her and she wouldnt turn over. i finally ran the battery dead and later on i went and got a new battery. put it in and still wouldnt turn over. i checked for spark in my wires and they had spark. so we tried to push start and when i dumped the clutch the rpms would go up to like 1500 rpms but it just wouldnt start so any ideas on how to get her to crank. thanks

confused, the car doesn't crank now with a new battery?

even push starting a car with a dead battery will not get it to fire up most of the time, charge the battery and then try push starting it or performing the unflooding procedures in the FAQ thread.

cranking is the engine rotating from the starter but not fired up, turning over is considered the engine starting up.
