Won't start

I think I'm screwed but last night after starting the engine it started making a weird rattling noise so I drove it home. When I got home the turbo was glowing pretty bright from heat. Well a couple hours later I try to start the car to see how she sounds and all I got was a sound that sounded like the alternator spinning independently but I just go a loud spinning sound and now engine starting, I checked the belt on the alternator and it doesn't move, none of the belts do. So how screwed am I?

More details please. If you flood the engine bad enough, it will sound like the starter's spinning freely. The engine won't make compression until you put a capful of ATF (automatic transmission fluid) into the lower sparkplug hole on each rotor. Then you'll hear the exhaust pulses return when attempting to start and it should fire right up. That's assuming the engine was making good compression before.

If the turbo was glowing red, then either 1) the bearings are fried in the turbo and it needs to be rebuilt 2) the exhaust is clogged.

Well it's a manual transmission and it's an 87 turbo. I don't suppose it could have anything to do with the wrong key being stuck in the ignition could it? cause it started once with the wrong key.

nah, that's just a worn lock issue.. it's common. If you're troubleshooting this yourself, download the service/shop manual from http://www.teamfc3s.org

if the turbo is glowing red, then probably the precat or cat is clogged. something that happens frequently to turbo FCs.
