won't start!!!
Hi, i'm new to the board, and i have some questions.
I bought a 88 n/a rx-7 that doesn't run i have replaced the fouled plugs, plug wires and done some other minor test and repairs, but she still won't start. I had a simliuar problem with my old bmw, i checked the MAF and the test shows, its bad. now that i am waiting for a new MAF i am wondering if anyone has any other sugestions of what might be wrong, while its sitting in the garage. when the car died it overheated and would never start again. The car has set for 5 months, and here i am. now i have noticed that their is no theromostat and its leaking around the gasket so i can fix that quick. I would be greatful for any advice you guys can give me on common problems, i want to get her working cuz Auto-X season starts next month.
Thanks, Clive

man, where to start? get a haines manual or factory service manual for the 86-88 cars & read the **** out of 'em. this forum's good for info too. good luck, if your '88 is anything like mine, you'll get to know it REAL quick just from fixing all broken stuff!

A: FCs dont have a MAF sensor.
B: Overheated FCs = Likely blown motor. Do the Water seal check.
C: FC that sat for 5 months is VERY HARD to start.
2 things YOU can do to start that motor. First, do the complex unflooding procedure:
http://www.rx7.com/tech/unflood-fc.html
Second, do the water seal check:
Fill coolant system ALL THE WAY UP (engine cold). Make sure that the fluid level is as high as you can get it. Leave the filler cap off. Remove the EGI fuse. Crank the motor (it should not start). If you get a LARGE amount of coolant coming out of the coolant fill, its safe to assume your coolant seals are blown. Also, a good indication is a fuel/exhaust smell in the coolant.
