Wondering how much to offer this guy...

Was out walking around the other day, and I see a guy washing his FC. Now, me being a door to door salesman of sorts, I go up and give the whole "blah blah blah" and he shoos me away. But, then I mention the car and how much I love it.

Well, it's easy to tell his eye perked up right away. He said that he's trying to get rid of it and that I should make an offer, but I don't know much how to offer. Here are the details...

It's an 88 SE.
It has passed emissions and inspection.
The interior is clean.
The engine only has 80K on it.
New rims and tires.
Exterior is clean except for one rust spot on the rear right wheel well which he is taking care of.
He's replacing the windshield and repainting the car before he sells it.
Brand new dual exhaust system.

Thoughts?

your not a good salesman, you should have mentioned the car first, talk about something he likes, get his attention, then slip in about what your selling later on, he will be more inclined to look at what you have

New paint job, clean everything, new rimes, etc. I'd say much higher. Around $2500.

Right click on his sig, then click on copy image location.

Not too shabby. I bought my 88 SE for 1500 and it had at the time 166000 miles on it. If that is an original engine, and not a rebuilt engine. The seller could easily get 3000-4000 for it. If a compression test checks out well.

I sold my perfect 87 base with new rims, tires, paint, nice exhaust, and a $1200 stereo system for 3600

just for a reference

See if he has some verified proof that the engine was rebuilt. It is easy to claim that the engine only has 80k on it, unless that is what the odometer says.

$2k-2.5k isn't a problem if it is a 5-sp with new paint and what-not. See if you can ****** it for 2
