The woes of selling an FC

Sooooooooo
I currantly have three, black convertibles. One N/A, one turbo with blown motor, and one replacement turbo just like the one with a blown motor. I listed the N/A her last fall, and of course nobody bought it. I placed an add in craigs list and got a lot of "im really interested and have cash in hand" but still no test drives. Its only been two days so im not too stressed. But i thought i would share a few of my pains.

1. Guy sends me a video his brother took of the RX he wants, is this it? The link takes me to some site which needs me to install a player. Player doesn't work and I now have a new search bar i have to remove. PITA send my phone and emails and nothin.

2. Listed on CL for $2500 because I only really only want $2k. Guy " i really want your car but i only have $1500" sigh. "no but if you get $2k its yours" Ok i'll get back to you" Should we take bets on that? Maybe a pool, 5 bux gets you a time frame. Never would be the best bet but who knows.

3. Voicemail. God I hate voice mail. message-- (like a gangsta) and real slow. Takes about 30 secs for him to finish. "yo, yo, you got 4 2 5 5 5 5 1 2 1 2 y o u k n o w w h a t t t o d o a t t h e b e e p"
If you would like to leave a message press one, if you would like to leave a call back number press 2. If you would like to send a text msg. 3. beeeeeep if you would like to re record your message press 1. if you would like to re record. press 2. Thank you for using blah blah blah....

4. Post from Here. "wow that is one sweet ride good luck with the sale" same message with "i wish i had the money" or "where was this a few months ago?" ansewer, here where it has been since august.

5. my favorite. Got this over email

Sweet rig! I wish I had the money to buy your rx7. However I have another Lil classic that might interest you as a possible trade.. I own a red 92 sentra SER that is in good condition for its age. Clean title. sr20de 140HP 132ft lbs stock. Four wheel disc brakes. Factory limited slip differential. Body straight, black interior is immaculate besides small tear on drivers seat. Odo reads 136k. I just put a new exedy organic clutch kit in w resurfaced flywheel less than 500miles ago. I replaced the OE motor/tranny mounts with polyurethane inserts. 5th gear, which is common to pop out on fwd sr20de's, does not on my car. nice CD player. Lowered on no name coils. New federal SS tires 195 60 14s on factory ser wheels WITH centercaps. I just purchased new lifetime warranty axles and wheel bearings for both fronts I'm installing soon. Lemme know if this something that interests you, I would really like to make a deal with you. This is my daily driver that has never let me down. Pic attached.

The 7 is greater than the B13...... : )

As much as I hate to admit it, I owned one (first car) and have always tried to delete those memories from my mind....

that b13 sentra is sweet

selling fcs will take a toll on your opinion on buyers, you will be so hopeful, and after a few months of it not selling you just get desperate lol

i dont care how underground popular those sentra sers are, freaking crap in my book and wont get you laid haha.

Ive had good success when i used to post on craigslist,.. dont list your phone number, just say email me for info. Sucks tho that alot of people use craigslist to spam bullshit.

Use some very good pictures with clear views, use HTML coding to dress it up a bit so you can fit more pictures etc.. and put No Lowballers

Welcome to craigslist, friend.

Sentras are gay, but they can be very fast.

I would consider that trade for the reasons already mentioned.

You may want $2000 but the market dictates what you will get. I'm sure you can hold onto it and maybe someone will pay $2000 eventually...especially if the car is in good shape.

That being said...second gen 7's pop up for under $1500 on CL fairly frequently in my area...I personally wouldn't pay more than $800 for an NA unless it was a 91 vert in immaculate condition or a GTUs. =)

If you want $2000 sit on it but if you want to get rid of it, should have sold it for $1500.

That's because the engine is blown.

They go for 1500 with as a running, complete car.

I agree but it should be a quick turn around if you can trade and sell it.

If you wanted 2k, why didn't you just ask for 2k?

if you ever tried to sell a car before everyone tries to haggle with you for example if i tried to sell a car at 1750 the potential buyer will offer 1500. so if the OP wanted 2000 and he posted it that price people would offer him less. It always works that way thats how people just think.

Exactly

I put 2k on here because i wanted someone who will appreciat it. Craigslist is $2500 so hopfully i can get a bit more then 2k.

Another issue with the whole supply and demand thing is WHERE you are selling, they might sell for $1500 where you live but what about Tex. or Kali, or boston etc. Hell one board member that is interested in it lives in Montreal. All the cars there are rusted and to find one in good shape there cost too much. I honestly don't have a clue what they go for around here in this crappy economy.

and finally. Go to kelly blue book and enter in a typical vert with 100k. if I could get what they want there I would really be happy! There isn't much hope for getting that in the real world

You just have to make your mind up that you aren't selling for less.

You'll get what you want. All that will change is how long it takes to sell.

They go for quite a bit here in North Texas since we have a local and reputable rotary shop. I think the selling value of RX7's go down the farther away you are to a competent rotary technician.

That is my theory anyway.

I wouldn't mind having that Sentra, they are uncommon, but I wouldn't trade MY 7 for it. I have to agree with JJW on the area thing. I paid 1500 for a TII that I was pretty sure would need a rebuild and probably a turbo. As well as several other expensive bits like seats and a paint job, 1 1/2 yrs later Its about to be on the road again and I still think I paid a good price for a straight bodied, relatively unmolested and complete TII. Course I traded a geo storm for my first Rx-7, an 87 GXL that needed a clutch and a wax. Just depends on the buyer and seller in the end.
