wobble shifter....

im looking at getting an 89 rx-7. its great, its a GXL. theres only one thing that bothers me, its got a wobble shifter. my friend said that it can be easily fixed by taking the tranny out (ive done that before), and changing a $20 brushing or something. he said its probably not anything major, it doesnt appear to be so to me. so what do u guys think? can i trust this tranny and can i fix it cheaply ? thanks...

Wobbly shifter can mean a whole bunch of things. When I purchased my 88 GXL it had an extremely wobby shifter but when I was shifting between gears, I could tell that the spacers at the bottom of the shifter was broken. I really didn't care since I was going to get a short shifter anyways, but what I'd do, is remove the shifter by unscrewing the ****, then gently pull the outside ring around the shift boot and the whole boot and plastic ring would come off. Now you should be able to see the inner boots. gently pull those off, and you'll see the bushings and everything. This is also a good time to get some tranny oil. Well, you should be able to tell if the bushings are broken and if they are replace 'em. Also, once done replacing everything, pour some tranny oil into the assembly until it's filled. Anyways, that's how to replace the bushings in the shifter assembly.

Hope thsi helps!

Peace,
AJ ^_^

go to Mazdatrix.com, and look up shifter bushings for ur car. they have a how to page, and a quick 30 sec video and everything. its real easy. itll tell u exactly what to do, ad what parts youll need to do it. and save urself the trubble, and Order ur parts from them, dont shop around. 'trix has genuine mazda parts, for cheaper then the dealer sells them, in FACT, 'trix gets the parts from the SAME WAREHOUSE! anywho, the shifter bushing is a quick easy fix, and after that, ur shifter will feel AWESOME. trust me
