Wiring Question

I have a wire that I don't know what it hooks up to.

My car is an 88 TII.

It is a black wire that comes out of a loom on the driver's side near the firewall. It comes out of the loom at the same place as the Oil Temperature Sending Unit's wires. The wire is a black wire with a red stripe that goes to a plastic connector then the wire becomes an all black wire. It has stripped out of something because I can see the copper wire.

Any thoughts are welcome.

thanks

No pics. Not at my house right now. Thunderstorm last night=no power today. Thanks AmerenUE!

I did make a mistake earlier. It is not the Oil Temp Sending Unit. The black wire to nowhere is next to the oil LEVEL sending unit that is on the driver's side of the oil pan.

I'll check the ground.

thanks
