Wiring problems with TII swap
Yeah i know, use the search. Its taking to damn long and this is an emergency. 86 wiring harness, 88 engine. Stuck. Stand-alone system available? Shortcuts and piggybacks?? Im getting the 88 ECU but no harness, will 86 work with 88 computer? ANY inputs helpful.
Let's see if I understand this. You have a 86 and your putting in a 88TurboII.
Not a difficult thing to do at all. There are but four to five wire changes to make. Much easier than buying a 88 turbo harness.
Your 86 harness will connect to the 88. Not to worry.
I posted the different wires once or twice before. Maybe before the day is over I'll get time to do it again.
It's pins 1C, 1R, 1S, 2K and 3D that differ.
1C goes to the Air Bypass RELAY on the non turbo, and the Air Bypass SOLENOID on the turbo. Leave it as is or depin it, whichever.
1R on a non turbo goes to P/S switch. On a Turbo it goes to the KNOCK unit. If you did not get a Knock Sensor and Controller off the 88turbo....then depin that wire or leave as is.
1S on a non turbo goes to the Port Air Solenoid valve on both engines. I forget why I considered this wire different. Leave it alone and connect it to the solenoid. No harm can come to the car.
2K is for the Split Air Solenoid on a non turbo. On a turbo its for the Twin Scroll Turbo charger solenoid. Fix: Splice in more length to the Split Air Solenoid connector and have it run to a solenoid to feed the Twin Scroll. There's a touch more to it than that but you'll figure it out by looking at the FSM wiring diagrams.
3D is for the Inhibitor switch on a non turbo. On a turbo it goes to the Fuel Pump Resistor Relay. You don't have that item on a series four .......so depin it and tie it back.
I think i lengthened the TPS plug a few inches on my car so it would reach.....the tps harness.
That's enough forever. Done. Fini.

If you go with a TII harness and TII ecu then you will need.
To run 2 wires from the Interior part of the EFI harness to the alternator since TII's alt plug is on the main harness while NA's are on he EFI.
Take your NA harness and check the colors and tone out where the Black and white and white and black wires go. Now go to the TII one and Cut these and solder in a new set of wires on the TII harness. I think the spots are on one of the orange plugs which connects to the main harness.(under floor panel)
Then there is a tellow with red stripe temp sensor which you will need to switch to make your stock gauge work. Also on the oranges plugs I believe.
You may need to convert to high/low impedance injectors depending on what engine you get and if the harness differs.

Turbo Boost sensor(on passenger strut tower)
Turbo AFM
Knock sensor and unit if you want it(unit is up in the passenger fender inside car) I cut my knock sensors wire and lengthened them to sit next to the ECU for ease of installation.
It's not a full list but can get you started.

Pardon me for saying so......but it sounds to me that using the turboII harness causes you splice and dice wires. Just as many as leaving the original harness in the car. At least by leaving the old harness in the car you don't have to remove and replace the harness. Just an observation.
Well if your putting in a new engine then dropping the whole thing in with the harness attached to the engine is easier. No manifold or small areas to work with. Just run the harness through the firewall and plug in.
The harnesses are really similar but the TII harness has some things already in the proper length and when taking on something like this it helps you know where it goes.
Either way your going to know the damn EFI harness pretty well in the end.
