Wiring in Ebay Headlights (city lights)
Wiring in Ebay Headlights (city lights)
I bought a set of cheap Ebay headlights to replace my stock ones which were flaking badly. It looks like a straightforward job to swap them but I have a question about wiring city lights (side lights). It is obvious where the main bulb connects to but where do I need to wire the city light to? You can see the black and red wires coming from the city lights bulb in the picture below.
Any ideas? Thanks

Normally, you would wire the city lights to the parking light circuit. There are the parking light just below the headlights, just tap the city lights onto that parking light circuit.

well, they're supposed to, anyway, and thats what they do on the nicer housings like Cibies
i'm not sure about ebay projectors like those..
Thanks guys - I've actually decided to stick with the standard city lights which in UK cars are located together with the turn signal underneath the FTP window. You can see them beside the amber section in the picture below The city lights which came with these Ebay lights are blue and IMO that is wrong wrong wrong.
As Icemark says "city lights" or side lights as they are called in the UK are normally used in dusky type lighting. Legal requirement for all cars to have.

yea i was gonna tell u that the city lights on the ebay ones dont fit anyway. like if u were to put in the entire housing with the city light attached the entire housings wouldnt go all the way into place. at least with mine they didnt

I think I get more looks from girls from teh headlights than I do from the Greddy exhaust on my Tiburon or form the open headers on my 7 lol.
They are very simple to install, Pepboys or www.jamstrait.com sells replacement LED bulbs in any color you want. I would suggest doing a clear corner mod on a 7 and putting the colored LEDs in the FTP lenses.
I HAVE GOTTEN PULLED OVER FOR THE BLUE LED's!
Never gotten a ticket though, I just get asked if they flash. To which I inform the cop that they dont and he lets me on my way

PS. The LED's in the avatar are only single 194 LED bulbs. Jamstrait sells brighter stuff than those but thats just over kill IMO

When I used to run with a Emergency response team in Old Bridge NJ the coppers in New Brunswick would pull us over everytime we were on our way to a call just because we had flashing red lights. In that county only police could have red and blue lights.
It all depends on your cops, county, and state.

"City" lights is just a nonsense name for marker lights. Same thing, no difference. What the hell does the city have to do with it?
Am I the only one who realises that wiring those lights up is completely pointless and unnecessary on a car with pop-up headlights?

I was thinking the same thing while i was reading through this thread... your never going to see them because when you turn on your parking lights your headlinghts are still going to be in the down position. Your never going to see them.
the clear lenses on the front should let enough light through (if they arent foggy and the buld is bright enough) and thats the only reason i havent ordered mine yet, didnt know how it woul look at night, so post some night pics soon!
You'll get very light light out the FTP lenses. The headlight housings sit a long way back from the lense, and most of the light from those tiny little bulbs (probably only 5W) will be dispersed inside the nosecone. You might notice they're on standing right in front of them, but probably only barely from an approaching car. It'll be a lot less light than you get from your existing 5W front marker lights.

If anyone wanted light out of the FTP lenses they would have to drill and tap them. Thats the only way that it would be worth it.
