Wiring differences on motors

I have a 88 Rx-7 and the motor crapped the bed on me and i need another. Will any second gen. motor work with the stock wire harness ? Also how hard is it to swap out rx-7 motor out ? I have done many Civic swaps before but never a rx-7 before. Thanks.

you need any 86-88 non turbo motor . 89-91 motors would need an ecu swap and some other nasty stuff

ya....stick with 86 to 88. not worth doing all the nasty stuff. its not that hard. when i did mine it was hard to get the motor off the tranny. it is much easer to take out the motor with the tranny and then but the old tranny on the new engine while the motor is out. some people dont like doing it this way. but i think it is much easer
