Wipers just died.. HELP!

88 fc vert, I hit the mist switch and they went a few times and then stopped in the middle of the windshield. I got home and the wipers move freely. I turned everything off I hear the motor running. The nuts on the top are tight. I am assuming the linkage faied. Any ideas? What am in for? Is this a common problem? I am hoping that the linkage just came apart but I am not sure if there is something broken in there or not.

if the wipers move freely it means that they are no longer connected to the motor, it is a simple ball joint with a rubber washer to hole the linkage on. if you take the black cowl cover off you should be able to find the joint if i remember correctly. When i first got my car the wipers did not work, i had the same symptoms also so that is my guess.

I guess that was my real question. I searched the archives and found a thread that said it was a "bitch" to replace the motor. I was hoping the linkage would be an easy fix. Thanks

I have a spare one, but sure if it works anymore. It's just sitting out there.
