winter relibility/safety mods
winter relibility/safety mods
I want to make my car more reliable and SAFE i the winter.
What kind of mods can i do to make it a better winter car?
i was thinking:
Tires (duh!)
suspension (lift kit for snow clearance)
add some weight
im wondering how much i can raise the car with JUST shocks/springs. few our swap basicly. anbody have any ideas? concerns? input?

thats all i foun for lifting, which could atuall be nice for summer driving too. (lowered for highway, raised a bit for city)
im not sure what else right now...

do you have a LSD rear ? (i hope ) i run blizzak's in the winter with good luck, for a lift you can try some stock springs (if you have cut or aftermarket) . I would just get a beater toyota 4x4 for the winter-)thats what i do
Do you have stock suspension now? Regardless, lifting it would make you have to get an alightment would it not? Then you have to do it again if you lower it. So if you go air suspension won't your camber be off in at least one of the two settings (high or low)? That idea seems like it would make your car less stable...
I drove an NA through canadian winters years ago and I didn't need to lift it. Really good winter tires make a huge difference, expecially on stock rims or narrower. LSD makes it so much safer, but again you haven't speficied.
One thing I did was put a small piece of hose on the e-brake cable on both sides, where the cable comes out of the sheathing and packed a little grease in there to keep the rear e-brake cables from siezing. This happened to me once, where onen side was sticking and on and icy highway I started to slide off the road.
