A negative downward force? Think about that. Let's see, negative downward would the same thing as a positive upward force, right? There is no such thing as negative force. Force is a vector measurement, a measurement with direction. A wing has *positive* upward force, a spoiler has *positive* downward force.

Your book is either plain wrong, or was written for someone who knows very little about physics. Don't just regurgitate what your teachers have told you...

yeah, my first post in these forums, and I feel odd about doing it criticizing someone. Although, I do believe that force is measured in absolute value.
