Arrow Window Replacement.

Long story short someone smashed the driver's side window of my 10th AE and stole all my stuff that is worth anything.

Now, I got a window, are they difficult to replace? I have a few days off and would like to get this done since it's raining.

edit: Oh yeah, and if anyone has an S4 dash trim thingy be sure and let me know

Good luck finding that window... the 10th AE has bronze tinted windows.

curses!

well I don't think this car has the original tint on it anymore anyway, it's more of a "help me I've been windexed too many times" purple color now. I am just going to put a new window on it and get all the glass re-tinted.

Window is easy to replace but getting all the glass out is a royal pain in the ***!

You'll need to make sure all the bits of glass are out of the window channels and the linkages and nooks & crannies in the door.  Once you get all the glass out, it's just two fasteners (10mm head with Phillips also) that hold the middle of the botton edge of the window glass to the track.

they can be a bitch to get back in, too. Me and a buddy wrestled with it for about 3 hours, gave up. The next day we got it in in about 5 minutes...go figure...

To finagle it in:
Set the forward end in the track about half way down.
Then fit the back end in the track & level it down.
If you have the angles right, it takes very little force.

Yes - I had to diddle with it almost an hour one time.

It's actually really easy with a small electronics vacuum (for computers/printers/etc--about the 1/2 the size of a normal mid tower case. I'm sure any other vacuum with a ~1" diameter hose and some small attachments would work wonders as they did for me.

Just remove off the door panel and vacuum out the bits after peeling back that liner (keep the tar like stuff away from your clothes). Follow Ted's advice up there for the rest. You'll have to have the window down a bit (or atleast the mount for the window) so you can access the bolts. Check around the base of the door for the drain holes to make sure that there's no glass stuck in them.

It took me about 5-10 minutes to get ALL the glass out (there wasn't too much, maybe about 4-5 cups worth), and about another 5 minutes to slide in and bolt up the replacement window.

I just installed a passenger side indow in my 10th AE yesterday. A semi tire blew out right next to me on the highway and a piece of the rubber smashed it to pieces.

The easiest way I found to fit in the window is to set the track about halfway down and slip in the window at an angle with the front side of the glass going in first. Get the front side in the track and lower the track down with the window resting on it. Be sure to hold onto the window really tight or it will fall and smash to bits. When you lower the track the window should slip right into place and then you just have to tighten the bolts. All this took me about 10 minutes. Good luck!

PS. I would look for the S5 trim cause it's rubber instead of plastic and is harder to break. It also fits just the same and looks better with armorall on it!

Man, you guys must've gotten lucky.
My window glass was all over the place.  It took me like over 30 minutes to vacuum everything up - it was all over the seat, foot well, and rear sections - the bastard must've hit the glass real hard!  I only had a canister vac, and even with the flex section, I still had a hard time getting all the glass out. That pic that Josepi posted looks like those 3M vacs the IBM reps used to use at work for cleaning up dust and crap; Parts Express sells them for like $200, I believe.

It only took me 5 minutes to drop the glass in.  I must've been lucky too.
