I have a question, though probably stupid.

You say you did them both in your driver door because you dont use the passenger switch. I get that.

So, if I do 1 in each door, just as you have described, all 3 switches (2 driver/1 passenger) will be protected? It just seems to me that if I did 1 in each door, then only 2 switches are protected...but I'm no electrician and wont pretend to be LoL.

I'm guessing by the reading that this basically is doing the same thing as the headlight relay mod....taking current away from the switch to prolong the life of the switch?

Thanks for the detailed write-up!

if you one in each door, it protects both driver side and passenger side switches.

Holy crap that's cheap! I have to call DEI and see if my system is compatible with both. And if I can still use my phone to open/close the windows

Another note, if I have s5 switches and regulators will they work with s4 vehicle? Were there any dimensional/wiring changes or just styling on the switches themselves?

I think the regulators are the same as long as it is a coupe. The replacement switches I bought where from an S4 coupe donor car and I have S5 vert.

This may seem like a dumb question but, since you're an installer and all, where and how do you mount the device? I mean, I have ideas but imagine you have found preferred places and ways. I was thinking of mounting it to the door panel. Double sticky foam tape? I think screws would be better but that may be problematic on the door panel.

Screw it to the metal inside the door in a spot where you can still put the door panel back on.If you look at the completed picture in my second post, you'll see where my 451m's ended up.

Okay here is a question. Could these 451m units be used to "alleviate" the parking/driving light switch? mine burnt out so I am just curious as to this seems to be a problem with FCs!

if you need your headlight rebuilt you do it using aftermarket better relays that are the same STYLE as the OEM, these would not work for the headlight switch. unless you want to turn them on momentary and then them go back off.

but your switch can be fixed. and its common.

I am an idiot I dont know why I didnt consider the momentary side of that. I have plenty of switches, just wanted to prevent future malfunctions. I appreciate the quick response though!

prevent future malfunctions= replace 30 year old relays with new ones.

The 451m would be useless for fixing a headlight switch but it isn't a momentary relay, it is just 2 relays in one box and way easier than than doing the window motor mod with standard relays.

I do agree though, you should just use standard SPDT relays for the headlight switch mod. If you did use a 451m you are just wasting a relay and some money.

sure as ****, I posted in here, and a week back I lost the ability to use the driver switch to raise the passenger window. Still lowers it of course

I will be doing this while I have the door skins off soon. Passenger side door handle needs some attention any how.

535T Directed

I just bought a 535T Directed Window Automation module. Can this thing be used without an alarm? Browsing the instructions, I didn't see details that document omitting the alarm connections.

Can you elaborate?

Thanks!

Yes sir, you can use it without an alarm. You just leave the alarm connections disconnected and set the dip switches for 2 window mode and one touch operation.

got my 451ms ordered today! 9$/piece on eBay. not too shabby.

I will post my results. Also, considering getting a 529T to control my sunroof with my alarm remote (in case of rain and what not). any thoughts or knowledge?

Will work the same as if connected to a window.

Finally got my 451ms. question, do i need 2 on the drivers side (one for the driver window up and down/one for the passenger window up and down) and just 1 on the passenger? sorry for being a N00B but i would prefer to get this done correctly and hopefully never take my door panel off again! haha. Also, i will be doing this is my girlfriends FC now that its up and running.

Let me add to this by saying the switch side has green/white and solid green. There is no green/black as you mentioned

One 451m on the driver side and 1 for the passenger side. You are isolating the motors from the switches. The driver side switch controls both motors irrespective of the passenger switch. If you do the 451m mod (one in the driver door and the other in the passenger door) you have successfully isolated the 2 motors from the 3 switches.
