A vacuum leak makes a car run lean, not rich. Why does everyone keep making him run around in circles for things that don't have anything to do with the problem?

 

That's why I told him I had to lean it out with the SAFC.

He said he had a boost leak,.. I told him how to make sure he fixed it.

..how is that the runaround?

 

He had cracks in a couple of couplers that he said he replaced, but that's about it. No mention of boost leak that I found after rereading the entire thing, though a lot of people making him run around in circles looking for vacuum leaks or other things.

 

I'm not trying to give anyone the runaround,.. Actually I was trying to help.

As far as the IC leak tester goes,.. Oh!, he said VAC leak, instead of BOOST leak.
Big deal.
I was just mentioning how he could make sure he had it sealed.
He didn't know about the boost leak checker,
& that's something everyone should probly know about , So whats the big deal?..

 

If you want to test for Vac Leaks here is the easy/dangerous way to do it

Get the following items:

1) A spray bottle with a Mist setting
2) A Fire extinguisher
3) Gas or Alchohol

Warm car up, wait for idle to be stable-ish

Spray gas/alchohol near all tubing.

Listen for the enigine to rev.

Quick and easy.

The Fire extinguisher is for when your engine lights on fire because you spray too much flamable mist in the compartment.

OK really only a complete idiot or a pro does it this way...

 

uhh....what the hell do i look for now...i dont wanna be wasting my time...do i remove rats nest? do i get a new FPR?

Check the sensors that actually EFFECT the mixture at idle? It's not that difficult, and I already mentioned some previously.

Either your injectors are dirty and leak and dump more fuel than they should
Your FPR is not working properly
Your AFM is out of spec
Your water thermosensor is not functioning properly
Your air intake thermosensors aren't working
Your idle mixture screw has been screwed with beyond recognition
Your fuel return line is clogged

And the list goes on and on.

And to those above, he said he found a possible large vac leak, and repaired all of those that were suspect. Continualy posting methods for detecting and fixing leaks (when he's already done so) serves not a whole lot of purpose to his problem.

 

Well, before I installed new 720cc injectors, and Rtek 1.7 the car idled fine...a bit rough...but not like it does now.

It was the first time I took the UIM off, but I made a new gasket out of gasket material, and made an RTV sandwich out of it...So I'm fairly sure its sealed fine...

Its gotta be something I did during this swap...but I dont know what to look for.

 

Get the FSM and check all of the sensors at the ECU, that'd be a good place to start (it's a good place to start for all RX7 engine troubles)

 

I agree about checking all the sensors,
and i'm not trying to argue,
All I'm saying is, When I tried making an "RTV sandwich". It leaked.
My car had a boost leak, but it was still pretty rich.
I fixed the leak with new gaskets. The idle smothed out alot, then I leaned it out with my SAFC to 13.0 on the wideband & it idled perfectly. with no emissions.

 

i guess walbrows work for some and dont for others
when i installed my walbro pump i had 80 lbs fp. car wouldnt run, lol.
i swaped to a different fpr and i got the same thing.
I needed an after market fpr

 

Ok, 9:00 AM and im heading outside to start on the 7...Ill start by testing all sensors related to intake, and then if those all check out ill pull the UIM to check my FPR...if thats no good I have another stocker on my 2nd engine...Ill have to check to see if its good...but good chance it is.

Ill replace the UIM gasket with a brand new one as well...

and THEN if i put it all back together and it still doesnt work...im gonna take it all apart AGAIN...and pull all emissions...well more than that...i mean everything that isnt required besides the thermowax pellet, and im not gonna to the TB mod. But everything else will go...

hah, replace the UIM gasket....

i think i'm still using the one that mazda put on there. it's hard as a rock. i replaced the LIM gasket a long time ago but it was soooo aggrivating to scrape that thing off and get it cleaned up that i didn't even bother with the UIM gasket. i have a new gasket for it too.

 

wow...im driving the Jeep Liberty now. It sucks...but ill live with it for the week...
