my friend and i are arguing whether or not there would be a difference in temp with a TII hood or a N/A hood with a front mount, i say yes any extra air coming in should help cool the engine.
TBH, air doesnt do much to engines at all. Cooling the water which cools the engines yes. But, cooling the air around it, meh, no significant difference. So a STOCK n/a with a T2 and then a N/A hood, wouldnt make a difference.
My opinion, cant say I know for sure. But the hot air in you're bay won't effect the performance unless its being sucked in through the intake.

Negligible. I ran a NA motor with a TII hood for years, and it didn't do anything to help cool the motor. The airflow at the radiator and oil cooler is what counts; not what's flowing by the manifolds.
The vented Turbo hood is useful because it brings in air to cool a specific part (the topmount intercooler), which you no longer have.
You'd be better off by far with a hood ducted to extract air rather than bring more in.

ACTUALLY... I beleive it was Modified mag I read it in, but they took a STOCK s13, put a vented hood on it and ran it on a dyno and it they added like 3 HP or something like that. Moral: It works.

its actually possible that having a T2 hood scoop push air into the engine can sort of ruin the flow of air and make under hood temps hotter. this is why ppl with V- mount system use those hoods with indented holes that cause a suction across the top, pulling air out of the engine bay, infront and over the windshield.
this becomes even more apparent with the use of full front ducting, in large race groups like nascar.
Unfortunately, the stock Mazda turbo hood doesn't bring in air to anything useful unless the topmount AIC is in place.
Maybe you consider blowing air over the rat's nest and oil filter to be a performance upgrade...

If the TII scoop is working as a scoop, you'll have higher air pressure in the engine compartment, which will cause the amount of air flowing through the mouth of the car decrease, making cooling WORSE.

having a aftermarket hood with a reversed vent would create negative pressure at speed, prompting suction/better air flow through the engine.
putting a scoop on will push air into the top, slowly trying to reverse the air coming in from the front. it just turns into one big cluster **** of air. stay with the stock hood or get a reverse vent hood.

Well I think the 3 hp gain might've been from the air filter sitting right where the scoop was. This could cause slightly cooler air getting into the motor, resulting in more hp, but as far as the ENGINE being cooler. I wouldn't think so.
if your after cooler air temps you could try to build a hood like i did.

mine dips down towards the radiator and pulls the hot air up and out. Ofcourse with this you would have to run a electric fan.

This IS a good idea! I know there is a company out there making these hoods but can easily be made yourself.
A slight change in subject:
say i want to go turbo, which is would be better(not caring about ease of build)
1. use the TII hood, and the top mount intercooler.
2. keep the stock hood, use a front mount intercooler.
i kind of want to do the second because it makes it look more agressive, and its something different.
