Will an S5 gauge cluster fit in a S4

I searched and couldnt find any results, but Id imagine the actual cluster will fit, but im wondering if the hookups are correct and will the gauges read properly?

I like the styling of the 5s better with the round gauges, 9K tach (saves me from buying an aftermarket one and taking up more space inside!) and even though the higher numbered speedo is kinda pointless, it still looks cool!

I may not even swap it out, but I was just curious, because theres like a ton of FCs at my local junkyard that have many salvagable parts that I can get for free :-D

yes an s5 cluster will fit fine, however some rewiring will be required as some pins on the plugs are in different locations! there is a write up for this conversion somewhere

Don't. The S5 coolant gauge is so inaccurate your motor will be damn near dead before you realize it's even overheating with that thing.

Sorry if this seems like I'm threadjacking here...

If the S5 gauges are so inaccurate does that mean that you're better off getting (basically) all new gauges (in seperate pods I mean)? Or even swapping out the S5 cluster for the S4 cluster.... if that's possible.

I just don't see how they can be THAT inaccurate.

It's always a good idea to have an aftermarket oil pressure and coolant. And yes, it CAN be that inaccurate. It only has 3 spots, cold, normal (50%), and overheating, there's no linear inbetween, and when it starts to move up to the overheating area, it's usually been overheating for a while before it finally heats up enough to trigger it to move to the top of the gauge

thanks, everyone! i appreciate your knowledge on the subject. if anyone finds out some more specific details, throw em at me. I do know that the coolant gauge on the 4 works well, but i already have an aftermarket oil press and water temp on it, so thats not my problem really. more like "can i save myself $250 for the sweet Apexi EL tach when an S5 unit may work just as well"...what can i say, im a parts *****....

(btw, sorry im also firebird_racer, i lost my pass until recently and ive had this name awhile!)

NO, it is not plug-n-play.
The pins are not the same.

Would it be possible to keep the s4 cluster but use an s5 tach to see that extra 1k RPM?

Why?
The engine doesn't make power up there unless you have serious mods (i.e. porting)?
You're just hurting the engine revving over it's redline!

Sigh. Adding the extra 1k is a totall 'rice' thing to do to your car, just leave it the way it is, or buy some corksport indiglo gauges if you want something different to do to your gauge pod.

I was just about to ask if the S5 engine revs higher than the S4? Is the only basic difference between the S4 and S5 N/A motors that the S5 has an Iron backplate?

I actually like the S4 gauges. The previous owner installed some different colored back lighting so I can switch it between green and blue, and adjust the brightness. It makes it looks like a smurf is driving it because my face lights up blue lol. Smurf styles!

Specially coated stat gears...
Lighter weight rotors...

Higher compression, VDI intake, electric OMP, oval injectors, bullet looking AFM, ok, I see the point of not listing everything.

I would like the extra 1k on the tach because I've got an s5 engine in an s4 car, and I'd rather not have to repin the whole cluster. That means the redline on my tach would match the redline on my engine, and last I checked maching you tach with your engine is not a ricer mod. Putting a 5" tach that goes up to 20k in a car already equiped with a tach, now that's a ricer mod. Now that you see I have a legitimate reason to do this, you mind answering the question?

You mean the one built into the s5 ECU that kicks in between 8.5-9k?

Did you not read? I have an s5 engine and ECU in my car, that's why I want the s5 tach, to match the engine.
