well everyone says deep pockets are needed because you would need custom exhaust piping, custom motor mounts, etc etc. and some way to wire it up/engine management. if you cant fab it up yourself, expect a nice shop bill.
But yeah, a VW bug or Porsche will be the easiest since there are already made motor mounts to mate with their trannys. http://www.kennedyeng.com/
a bug or porsche would be sick , and fast .

i think its pretty cool, and there are some nice looking Bugs out there.

Whatever shell you decide on, keep in mind that the NA's biggest fault is lack of torque, so the lighter the body, the better.
Assuming you go with a front engine/rear drive chassis, you'll also want a fairly large transmission tunnel to work with.
Without doing any feasibility studies at all, the car I'd look at first would be an Opel GT...assuming you can even find one.
As far as the "deep pockets" comments go...you simply cannot imagine the level of nickel and diming that any project like this entails.
Mounting the engine/tranny is actually the easiest part of the job, from there on out you'll be spending cash in $50 and $100 dollar chunks on piddly little **** that you can't even see.
Then of course there are the big ticket items like driveshaft and exhaust.
The whole process can be very rewarding but only if you begin with your eyes wide open.
Figure it will take twice as long as your best estimate and cost 50% more.

I know that it is going to cost me more than I exspect and that it is going to take longer than I plan. I went through all that with my rebuild. I just am tired of all the people on this forum who just put search or u need billins of dollars to do it instead of actually answering questions or giving input.
I am planning on a fb now my father is a welder/fabricator so not
To worried about that.
Why wouldn't I just be able to switch out all the harness and ecu from my junk fc to the fb

Yeah I said deep pockets due to all the fab work involved... unless you are doing all the measuring, cutting, welding, wiring ect on your own it's going to get really expensive really fast. Swapping it into a VERY light chassis would be cool -but if your looking at anything that is comparable weight to an FC just get an FC... The performance that you'll yield compared to the expense of the build simply would not make sense at all.
A old MG or triumph tr4 would be awesome.

Chevette...They are light.
even an Old Pontiac Astre.Chevy Vega.
Honestly Though,Sell the engine,Buy a TII beater, sink your money into it.You'll be going TII anyways If you already "had" an N/A.

mid 90s MAZDA B200 2 wheel drive truck, use the RX7 tranny with the truck tailshaft and driveshaft(everything bolts on plus no need to mess around with the tranny tunnel or driveshaft plus the shifter lines up with the factory hole)for motor mounts use a SE pan, front cover and mount the motor via the stock SE cross member(welding needed)also the sway bar needs some minor mods 2 if not it will hit the pan, that is how me and my friend Rocky got hes done,we even got the ac,heater, and all the guages on the truck working with the stock fuel injection, for harness you need your engine harness,CAS harness, coils(really easy to supply 12 volt to the them)and all the rx7 sensors,my friends is a stock S5 turbo swap with a 3 inch catback running 10psi and is dam fast.
