Will only start with Part Throttle

Hey,

So I'm tired and hope I'm missing something easy, but for some reason my 89 Turbo will only start when holding the throttle at about half way and requires a bit of modulation to fire up.

Does this cold or fully warmed up, takes the exact procedure to get running. When running, will run very well, power seems normal.

Battery is new and I've verified good voltage
Alternator is producing 13.6 at idle and goes up with RPM
I have no 3800 rpm hesistation
Pump is new, voltage to pump is normal
New plugs yesterday
AFRs are 12.5 to 13 ish at idle, but I can modify them if required
TPS at 1K Ohms
Cleaned every ground I can think of, added a couple extra for testing purposes, no change.
I will likely check compression tomorrow to rule that out.

I've done a tone of searching and most seem to be, hot, cold or sticky starter issues. I do get the sticky starter once in a while and will probably look at adding in a relay, I just can't locate the stater fuel cut relay yet (I'm rhd but do have the factory alam so who knows)

Any ideas?

Hi there just hard this same problem on my 91 N/A JDM S5 T2 Swap and had it for a couple of months now and got it fix but yours could be different but you could try this and see if it helps.


First check for vac leaks at your primary injector because this was my main issue on my car.
Start the car or in your case try to and warm it up to temp,then when it's warm take some carb cleaner and spray down onto the primary's good as if it it leaking your idle will rise mines was so bad that the car will want to shut of yes that bad so you will need new grommet because those on there are hard and is not sealing properly and the engine is sucking air and is causing this hard start hot and cold,also there are some rubber spacer that comes with most injector rebuild kit for the top of the injector and fuel rails which also helps with sealing.After you got this done check the timing and idle,there is a single Green Pin connector near the leading coil pack you will need to ground it and start the car to set Timming and idle after you all done you could just go back and check your tps and now you should shoul not have no cold hard start because there is no more unmetered air going to the engine if it don't work for you might have to look at other option like thermosensor,MAF,fuel pump relay and pump but the grommets fix mines and now she starts like a camp and holds idle at 800 rpm so good luck and hope you get it fix.

Thanks. You totally jogged my fuzzy memory. Need to do a boost tester check for leaks... duh! Haha, I'm also going to confirm voltage to injectors at ECU and compression check just in case. I have Sard 800cc secondary injectors that I may be leaking from and is probably one of the most recent changes I made. I'm hoping it's letting air in and that's my issue.

I'll report back for others who might stumble upon this in the future.
