Hey anyone that might be able to help me. Ii have a 88 with a rebuilt street ported engine that has about 2500 miles on it. Today when i was driving i saw the oil pressure go down, the car lose sunificant power and the heat guage went up. I stoped and let sit for hours but it just will not start. During this entire time i necer saw smoke coolant or any strange smells. However there was at one point, when i managed to get the engine going for about 30 seconds, a rather loud banging noise. think it might be something eletrical any help would me much Appreciated.

 

sounds like "a rather loud banging noise" suggest a blown apex seal that is ripping apart in the engine.

A compression test would be suggested first.

 

Did you do the work your self? Where are you in VA?

I would agree. Apex seal blown. Oil pressure drop would indicate the pump went causing no oil flow= blown seal.

 

See the seal is what i thougt at first also but if the seal was blown wouldent i smell or se something. And no i did nto do the work myself, it was done by kevin landers(rotary ressurection). I live in charlottesville
