will mazda *really* fix my seatbelts??

Ok a couple months after I bought the car, the track cable for the passenger side came out of its groove. After trying for days to get it to realign, I gave up, pulled the cord out of the track and stuffed it under one of the inside body panels. The belt clip is stuck fast where it needs to be to securely hold the passenger seatbelt. Just no more auto-seatbelt.

What got me though, a couple weeks before the tranny went out (still in the garage, too cold to put new one in), the driverside has seeminly locked up. Fortuately, its also in a position where you can just reach up and latch/unlatch it.

Will they fix these, or give me some **** about how i broke them?

BTW: There is no molding that covers the tracks anymore. Hasn't been since they cracked off a couple winters ago...?

I don't think they will give you crap, a Recall is there becasue its Safety specific. I think that seatbelt thing is a recall right? (Sorry im not fully informed)

I know with my Mitsu Eclipse and Starion (they both had dumb emission sticker recalls... the starion had a pre-cat recall...) they offered to do them no problem. Its a matter of safty for the driver, and to keep the company from having a bad name etc so I am pretty sure they will do it.

Attached is a PDF file someone scanned in (from this forum) of the original recall letter sent to all 89-91 RX7 owners by mazda. Just print this out and bring it to the dealer, and no matter how many times the recall has been done on the car in the past, they will do it again for no charge! Good luck!

The dealer will try to give you crap and not fix it. Afterall they are a business and make no money on this recall. However, they have to fix it.

Some people have had to threaten the dealer and others have had to resort to calling up Mazda USA.

The bottom line is that the seatbelt recall is valid for the life of the car.

Yeah...pretty much no matter what they HAVE to fix those belts. And if they break again, they have to fix them again.

One thing though, since you have an older car, they may not know about the recall, but they should be able to look up the VIN number and find it. And if they give you ****, do a little searching and you can find the recall letter on here, as well as phone numbers for Mazda USA and give em hell.

no freakin' way! that sucks. I hope it worked out for you... you know, in the end.

about the seatbelts and the recall: I went to mazda's website and set up a "My Mazda" account, to see if they had any goods for my car (maybe some manuals, or special catalogue or something). I entered the VIN, the mileage, and all they told me was that my car is black. No suggested maintenace schedule, no owner's manual, nothing. Furthermore, there was one area that listed all recalls for my car. It actually stated that there were no recalls!
Reading the .pdf that was attached earlier in this thread, the seatbelt issue is *clearly* a recall... so what other recalls have been done that I might not know about?

well actually I would have been **** out of luck since I signed there stupid release form but since I was 17, a minor signing a legal document is null an void, so after I contacted a lawyer I was about to get the money for a new system 3 months down the road.

Only reason i go to the mazda dealer is to get parts

yeah, mazda has to fix any recalls no matter how old a car is. depending on the dealership they may give you crap but in the end it has to be done. my friend and i were thinking about bringing our FCs on the same day to get warenty work done on it just to put a spur under their boot since our local mazda dealership is usually an *** towards us. well their parts department is usally cool but everyone else there acts like an ***.

I'm confused how they don't make money? Mazda corp reimburses them for labor spent right? Obviously its not the full rate reimbursed... but is partial rate. If its a small dealeship, I think they'd be happy to have business period...

Like the hotel business. When a person gets enough "travel points" or what not they get a free room at whatever hotel. That hotel gets reimbursed (not much, but more than fixed costs. and more than enough to pull profit) for the room. Bottom line is if other sales aren't displaced, we're not losing money, only losing potential profit. And you'ld only be losing potential profit if you are disaplacing full rate profit.

at one point my driver side track belt had come out, after stuffing it back in several times I finally just put the latch where it needed to be cut the belt and left it that way for a while. I had seen the recall for it and tooks it into the nearest dealership. told them I saw the recall and explained what happened. they set up a time for me to bring her in. did so and later that day had my baby back with working seatbelts. they also told me that while working on them they accidentally broke a piece of the vinyl trim and ordered a new to be put on at no charge. they showed me the bill at what it would have cost. THANK GOD FOR RECALLS lol.
