I doubt it. But if it is turning it brown I would not use Lacquer thinner. I use it to clean my paint gun and it does not tarnish or discolor its (aluminum) metal parts.

While were on this subject, what would be the optimal thing to use when cleaning internal engine parts, such as rotors , or rotor housings?

foamy engine brite! I don't know, but in my experience it works pretty well.
You could buy (or borrow) a parts cleaner, that would be best.

Go to AutoZone or TrakAuto and buy some Gunk brand Parts Cleaner. It comes in a gallon can that looks like a paint can. If they have a a big 5 gallon jug, get that instead, but they probably only have the smaller stuff.

The bigger the container means you can put more in it. If you are stuck with the smaller stuff, buy a metal pan that is seamless and at least big enough for a rotor. I eventually gave up and bought a huge pan that could fit my housings too so I wouldnt have to spend as much time cleaning them.
