Why wouldn't it fit in an 86-88? I have a shifter from a 89 in my 88. if an 3rd gen fits an 89-91, and a 89-91 fits an 86-88.....

Just curious, I could be wrong. Maybe my shifter was modified to fit in my 88.

I think they are confusing shifter (the rod) with the Shift ****.

The FD and NA (Miata) shift **** will fit a S5 shifter, but not a S3 or S4 shifter.

The S5 Shifter will fit in place of a S4 Shifter (and visa versa) but a S3/S4 shift **** will not fit a S5 or S6.

Don't know if a S6 shifter will fit in place of a S4/S5 one however. I suspect it does not as the aftermarket short shift kits are specific to the S6, S7, S8 or specificly S4/S5 are different than each other.

I tend to disagree.. my buddy who just rencently lost his 10ae had a FD shift **** on his shifter.. anywho.. the reason i asked is b/c short shifter for a FD is like half the price as a FC

The 10TH AE is an S4 FC and as mentioned above would not work with a NA/NB or S5 FC or FD shift ****.

The only way a S4 car can use a NA/NB or S5 FC or FD shift **** would be if the shifter was from a S5 car.

No
The shifter themselves are different.
the shift **** might work, if it's an S5

are you guys sure the SHIFTER will not work. because the pettit short shift kit (if i remember it is actually a b&m kit) for the fd is extra nice. that is what i currently have in my fd.

Sounds like you are the perfect candidate to remove the short shift from your FD and try it in a FC...
