I have a crack in mine and i'm looking at replacements. What else can I get off an FD? Fuel pump? i am not familiar with the FD and any help will be appreciated.

No. The runners don't quite line up and need to be port matched. Same with the bolt holes. Need to be re-drilled. The trottle cable is different. So is the TPS and all the sensors. Stock intercooler won't work either. You'd need a standalone ECU to use it.

A crack in the inlet manifold? That's odd. Just have it welded up.

Can anyone comment as to whether or not the FD manifold is *really* an improvement over the S5 UIM? I've seen people do that swap, but I've never seen any hard evidence (IE dyno comparison or something) that says one is better than the other. Heck KSP makes what... ~700HP with an FC upper... but that doesn't mean it's more or less efficient.

Or is this purely an asthetic mod??

Excellent Higgi! I was hoping that someone would design one for a while now. how differant are the throttle bodies and how they bolt up between the FC and the FD?

you can bolt a 3rd gen uim to a S5 turbo II lim by milling out the bolt holes a little on the lim. You do not need a stand alone ecu for this conversion.

you will need to do port matching for sure... but more along those lines,
lets say just doing the UIM from and FD, you would need to adjust your throttle cable if not have to fab one up not to mention cruise if you have it, and the tps. is it compatible with our ecu's? It would be nice to see what exactly what needs to be done... I have thaught about this mod quite a bit but never thaught that the benefits would be any better than designing my own! and most likely that same amount of work.

The FD TPS is not compatible with the FC ECU. The S4 ECU needs a narrow-range TPS and the S5 ECU needs to see both a narrow-range TPS and a full-range TPS. The FD TB only has a full-range TPS, and it would be very difficult to adapt the FC plunger-type TPS's to the FD TB. An aftermarket ECU makes this problem go away.

Personally I don't think this conversion is worth it until you're at the stage where you need aftermarket engine management anyway. On a mildly modified engine I doubt the small gains would be worth all the hassle.

You dont need an aftermarket ecu for this to work. I know it will work for 89+ cars, not sure on pre 89 ones though. You just have an adaptor plate like this one made by R-magic. They even include the instructions on how to splice the FD tps connector into the FC harness, too. Soulassasin had this on his FC for a while, with a power fc computer.

The FC ECU needs to see two different TPS's which do two different jobs. The FD TB only has one TPS.

BTW, the PowerFC is an aftermarket ECU.

if theres no gains for this, whats the point? the FD UIM, when unpolished or painted, is an eyesore. i think both the S4 and the S5 UIMs look better.

You could also get a FD Alternator. With a little fabbing of It's Pulley and the replacement nut/bolt/washer of the "ear" and even be specific, as I did, I have Blue TII sending me the FD Acorn nuts to the Manifold.

It's asthetically pleasing and It straightens out the runners. I've heard of FC's making big HP with the stock Manifolds. I remember RETed saying that It's not a worthwhile mod In terms of labour to pay off ratio.

No, you do not need an aftermarket ECU to run it. You can wire it in to the FC ecu to work, mine is in the process now. And if i remember correctly, Turbo II FC's have only one TPS.

Once again, the S4 ECU needs a narrow-range TPS and the S5 ECU needs to see both a narrow-range TPS and a full-range TPS. The FD TB only has a full-range TPS. If someone can explain how you can get around this, please do...
