wil i need to rebuild?

say i import a 1989 rx7 series 5 from japan to australia, and the engine is running pretty good. If i put in aftermarket ecu, fuel pump, injectors. get it tuned perfect so its never gonna lean out. Would i ever need to rebuild?

Even if the engine has 100,000k's on it?

thanks

Engines wear just like any other mechanical part. Yes, you will eventually need to rebuilt it. APex seals do wear down, and the coolant seals wont last forever either.

no, mod it so you know when it'll blow up---then rebuild it

above 75 or 80 is usable, 85 is the factory limit, and 100+ is good

why spend all the money building an engine and risk it blowing up if you make a mistake?

i say tune the old motor so in case it blows, you're planning on another anyway--then you can tune more conservatively.

thats rediculous, why waste $5,000 +/- on a motor with weak compression, or that will have weak compression, modding out a motor thats on its way out is like those people who are on resporators(sp?) from smoking their whole life, that continue to smoke when they are on the resporator, your just killing it quicker....or yourself in their case.....

motors with low compression don't make much less than motors with good compression...

i know a guy who had a bad front rotor (30psi) and 85 in the rear... 207 rwhp

tossed in a j-spec, (90/95psi) drove it a while to run it back in 213 rwhp--EXACT SAME SETUP--nothing was changed.
when a motor is ready to go, who cares if it goes? if it were a piston engine, i'd say maybe do the engine first since they can handle more abuse, but we all know how delicate these motors are in reguards to detonation.

but you sound mad... it's not worth raising the bloodpressure over.

calm down ppl, if the compression test is below 90 i'll rebuild, if its above that i see no point.
