Your pilot bearing died. You will have to replace that and a pilot bearing seal. Remember to use a magnet to pick up the rollers that fell into the eccentic shaft.

took me 30 seconds to mate the engine to the tranny on the cherry picker

What Clutch are you using? The ACT Xtreme PP has been known to break release forks, causing problems such as this.

Extreme PP
bought already a new clutch fork, release bearing
and now need to order a pilot bearing
I hate dropping trannies, I'll just take the long block out
I still don't know how a pilot bearing affects clutch disengagement
when its not one thing its another issue with this project

thanks for the tips

I bet the PP broke the release fork, it doesn't actually break, it cracks. Some times hard to see, take your time inspecting it when you do!

well the bad luck continues..lol
removed the engine
checked the fork seem a bit worn
replaced with a new one and also a new throwout bearing
then checked the pilot bearing..It seemed to be spinning good
but the rubber/metal seal was all mangled (FD E-shaft)

tried and tried and tried to get the bitch out
grinded a bit of a edge and chiseled away..only to really f' things up

sigh* I think I have to open my brand new engine to replace the shaft
damm I wanted to have my Grey Race TII ready for battle of the imports
in a couple of weeks....not sure I can pull it off
sourcing a REW shaft and closing the motor and getting it tuned

I'll just take my near stock Black TII with the MegaSquirt and boost it up and
have some slow but fun time....

or

I could just run NO pilot bearing so I can make the event
and then open the motor up later and change the E-shaft
My Mech friend says he has not used Pilot bearings on some of his race cars
