wierd starter issue...

so i tried to crank up the car this morning and the starter just started spinning and making rappid clicking sounds but wouldnt turn the engine over?

is it loose or does it need to be replaced?

The solenoid could be shot, the starter gear turns but is not being pushed into the fly wheel, or the teeth on the flywheel are worn down and not catching. But I would guess that if the latter was the case you would of noticed starter issues previously.

Have you tested the batt voltage, and at the starter?

Remove the starter and bench test it. You can connect battery ground to the body of the starter, and power to the + terminal and solenoid spade connector. If the gear does not pop forward, the solenoid is the issue.

the battery is brand new and the voltage is perfect. from the sounds ive heard it may be the solenoid but wouldnt suprise me if the fly was going bad...i guess a reason to upgrade my clutch and fly sooner :/

Def do what rocket said first, it is much more likely the solenoid or its connections are bad.
