Wierd sensor problem. Please help!!!

What would/could happen if I unplugged a suspected bad sensor. I was having trouble with the engine sorta stuttering when I would press the accelerator, the check engine light came on, so I get the codes. It had a throttle position sensor code. So I checked the resistance and it was out of the range specified in the FSM at full closed and full open. So I adjusted it within limits and tried to run the engine. The engine started right up but when I would press the accelerator it would stumble and stutter just like before. So just out of curiousity I unplugged the TPS and tried to restart the car. It started right up and ran a little rough but did not stutter when I press the accelerator. Does this confirm that the TPS is bad or just a fluke?
