wierd screeching sound when changing gears

I'm having a problem when I change gears at 3k or 4k I will hear a screeching like noise coming from engine bay, but it will only do it every so often (more often then I would like). Once it does it, it keeps on doin it till I shut off the car and let it sit. It was also do it when I rev it in neutrol, and it sounds like it might be coming from the belts.
I have AC,PS, no airpump. I'm using stock alt pulley with one belt.
Any ideas?

probably your alternator belt is slipping. either you need to adjust the alternaotr or get a new belt. when was the last time it was changed?

also , alot of people here would say that if you have no air pump you should have a dual alt belt pulley with 2 belts to prevent slipping. i cant say that it could be the case for you because i have the same set-up (no airpump, ps, ac with single belt) and it works fine. check and/or change your belt and make sure everything's nice and tight.

Probably a belt. They make a spray (or coating) that's supposed to stop belt squeeling. Check your tensions.

The dual alternator pulley is for your water pump. One belt isn't enough to keep it from slipping. Considering FC's run hot and are easy to overheat... never a good thing.

I'd suggest not using something that prevents belts from squealing just for the sake of quieting them down, since they should only squeak when there's a problem.

Well the belt was replace maybe 2 or 3 months ago so its not that old, and then tension seems to be pretty good. Maybe it is slipping?

Is there a problem you have with the two different people who suggested you CANNOT RUN ONE BELT WITH NO AIR PUMP???

sure you can, it just isn't suggested and you have to know how to properly tighten a belt. also having an electric fan helps.

if you can hear it while the tranny is in neutral then just pop the hood and listen to the engine, you should get a good idea if it is the belt or not by being right in front of it.
