Could the switch in the center console died?

Or it just has excess build up on the contacts. Take it apart gently and clean it. Then put it back together and try it. Make special note of how it comes apart so you can get it back together properly.

Mine got that way sometimes. Had to clean it up with some contact cleaner or alcohol.
